on Lancer's master: Okay time to finally explain Lancer's master gender discrepancy. Whilst not fully explained in the anime Kirei is not Lancer's original master. Lancer's original master was a female mage sent by the Mage Association named Bazett Fraga Mcremitz and she was sent on Kirei own's recommendation. Kirei had previously befriended her and thus when he went to see her following her summoning of Lancer her guard was down, and so he easily attacked her and cut off her arm, stealing her command seals and rights as Lancer's master. Bazett does not appear in the original visual novel (it is only mentioned in the route before UBW that Rin discovered her arm whilst looking Lancer's master.) but she does play a major role in Fate Hollow Ataraxia, a visual novel that acts as a follow up to stay night that unfortunately likely will never get an anime adaptation due to the nature of how its story is told. On Archer's past: Fate works off of multiverse theory and thus Archer is technically from a different timeline from the Shirou we are following in this series. (we'll call the Shirou we know UBW Shirou for ease) Likewise as Saber say when he became a heroic spirit he was brought outside the confines of time thus killing UBW Shirou wouldn't prevent Archer's existence. Indeed due to how time works for him his future self was summoned as Archer in own original timeline too, despite those being the events that lead to his existence as Archer. (though unlike UBW he never learned that archer was his future self). The thing we see him make a contract with his a manifestation of the "Counter Force" which is governed by something called Alaya, the collective unconscious of mankind. The Counter Force's goal is to prevent humanity from destroying itself and such when it is risk of doing so it intervenes. Normally it does subtly by manipulating events so that the right people are present to prevent the destruction, sometimes even empowering people to do so. (An example of this is seen in Fate sister series "Garden of Sinners" which is set in the same universe/ multiverse as fate.) However when preventing humanity's end requires a more direct forceful approach the Counter Force summons special Heroic Spirits called "Counter Guardians". Archer, or rather the heroic spirit EMIYA, is one such counter guardian. He become a counter guardian in exchange for power in life to be a hero and likewise saw it as a good deal since it'd allow him to keep being a hero even after death. Obviously he feels different about it now. Edit: On Avalon: To make it clear Shirou's healing abilities come from Avalon, Saber's scabbard, which Irisviel used in Fate Zero. When Kiritsugu saved Shirou he was on the verge of death so to heal him he implanted Avalon inside him. Normally it only worked in Saber's presence but luckily there was enough of her mana left to let it work. Likewise it is having Avalon inside him that allowed him to summon this saber as it acted as a catalyst. Its why shes the only repeated servant from the 4th war (other than gil) because the same catalyst was used again. Likewise Shriou's healing was shown to stop when Caster took Saber because he was no longer in Saber's presence thus Avalon's healing stopped working. Saber not being around is also why he didn't naturally heal from Lancer stabbing him prior to summoning her and joining the war.
