Everybody thought Aizen was a nice guy, but he was evil all along! And all of the flashbacks we saw so far involving weird Hollows were pretty much connected to Aizen's experiments as you noticed. The incident when Kira, Hinamori, and Renji were students, the weird Hollow that killed Kaien. Aizen's been pulling the strings for awhile. Can't wait for next week! Also just a reminder, Captain Unohana is the leader of Squad 4, the healing squad, so she is the best healer in Soul Society.

Been waiting for this episode for so long! I kept waiting for Anthony to forget about Aizen and not foresee the twist, but eventually I was just happy for it to be revealed to be correct. Also, Aizen's ability to use "complete hypnosis" was just his Shikai by the way, not his Bankai.

This comment doesn't spoil anything. Aizen's explanation was slightly disjointed and out of order. Basically, he started looking for the Hogyoku some time before the first episode. And then, Rukia gave her powers to Ichigo. Then Urahara ran into the powerless Rukia and gave her the fake body (gigai), this is also when he put the Hogyoku in Rukia's soul. Urahara's special gigai caused Rukia to become undetectable and to lose her spirit energy.... and when the Soul Society suddenly lost track of Rukia, that was when Aizen realized Urahara may have hidden the Hogyoku in her, because he knew that Urahara invented a gigai that hides your presence and takes your spirit energy away.

Good thing to note about Bankai in general. If they don't say Bankai, it's never Bankai. So if they are talking about abilities or such and they don't say Bankai, it's Shikai just the base form of the sword.

No spoilers just clarifications: Unless they say Bankai, its Shikai, Aizen total hypnosis is his Shikai form, Aizen was a mastermind of the plan and nearly everything was according to his plans, remember they took Central 46 and commanded everything before even Ichigo came into Soul Society, the whole Songyoku (executioner sword) was just a distraction, also its now gone. Urahara created Hongyoku and tried to destroy it, but he couldn't so he created a gigai and hide it inside and wanted Rukia to became human, which will completely hide existence of Hongyoku, but Aizen found it and how he hide it, thus we landed where we are.
