Having caught up with this, I will touch on something you guys mentioned in the first episode about the show being divisive. One reason the show can be like is the ending of the series don't worry no plot info just a note on the production, towards the end of the series they ran into budgetary problems. This is fixed as someone else had mentioned as they made a movie to kind of help improve the ending due to the popularity of the show called End of Evangellion. I don't know if you guys plan to react to it or not, but if you don't I'd stilll recommend checking it out on your own as it's more of a proper ending. The way the show ran into budget issues always makes me think of the original Gundam series as it got rushed to end earlier than it was supposed to because of poor ratings on TV, in fact the show didn't become popular until it went into reruns at a different time slot, and that series is like 42 years old now.

To add to that Another thing to notice is how in some scenes they just linger on one frame for a while because of budget reasons. Or how when characters talk you won't see them talking since that would cost more

To also add to that, this was an issue Hideaki Anno ran into as a Director at GAINAX not only once. On the Anime "His or Her Circumstances" they had similar budget issues, even worse then Evangelion (using the same 4 shots in almost every Episode for example), which is quite a shame since that show is also fantastic.

You guys, it's not the money aspect of the budget, but time. They didn't run out of money as so much as they ran out of time, creating episodes during the run of the series. That is why all the original airing's previews were storyboards.
