Its always funny how people just forget the fact that Rem literally killed subaru multiple times when they first started to meet and ended up torturing him at one point. Emilia has been nothing but an angel to subaru ever since they first met. Literally just simply go back and rewatch what you have seen up to this point and you can easily see why subaru can have those feelings. Rem is lucky to have made enough of a connection for subaru to let go of all the shit she put him through but people conveniently just forget about the negatives rem has done against subaru just because she has started being close to him in these past episodes.

Well one thing that most people miss is that, yeah it does seem like he's settling for rem versus emilia, but it's more like he's settling for rem versus everything and everybody else combined. He likes most of the people he has met and is hoping that he has a found a place for himself where he is appreciated/liked and he's ready to leave all of that behind, but doing that alone he won't be able to live with himself, so rem was there, he knew she liked him and just thought, at least I can make her happy. In a weird way he was actually being more insulting towards rem's feelings than it seems at a first glance, since he's basically tried to manipulate her to come with him, by using the fact that he knew she loved him. and him saying to rem that she'll be able to see the man she fell in love with become the greatest hero isn't him being an asshole, well it is, but not intentionally. Two main reasons for that, he usually acts excessively cringy and awkward at moments almost as if he's acting, this seemed as just a part of his character, but later on you'll find out that it's a result of his own insecurities, anxiety and lack of social intelligence, that's just his kneejerk reaction to uncomfortable situations, which weirdly enough later on he turns it around by adding confidence to it, to the point that it's becoming badass even. The second reason being, he thinks rem fell for him because he was a hero to her, so he basically vowed to do everything to deserve that. That's how I see it anyway.

Aye the past is in the past. Anyways, Rem had good reason to kill him back then. He smelled like the witch, which is very taboo in lugoonica. Plus she’s changed since then and the fact that he just did her like that is pretty cooked imo. He could’ve laid it on her easy but nah, he just went full force with the “I love Emilia”. I get why he loves Emilia but come on now.

This is late but you don't get rid of traumatic memories by saying the past is the past. I know what you are saying but I agree in the fact that he straight up let her know. People hate on subaru for it but in my opinion that is absurd. If Subaru already has his heart set on Emilia and didn't really have the intention to make Rem fall in love with him he shouldn't have to be shit on for his actions. If you want to shit on him for seemingly taking advantage of her affections for him you can go ahead and do that but at the same time he himself has said multiple times that he is stupid and dense and can't take hints. The story played out to where Subaru most likely thought they were just very affectionate close friends. Of course anyone with a brain and relationship knowledge knows that the way Rem acts around him is her being sexually attracted to him but again Subaru is a "loser shut in". I don't blame dos cavazos for the way they are seeing things because I had the same reactions in the first season. Glad to see things playing out how they should and them not getting spoiled. To wrap my reply up I just think that straight up telling Rem that he is in love with emilia is way more telling of how much he cares about Rem because he doesn't sugarcoat anything with her. It would be more messed up if he led things on or try to work around the fact or simply like you said "laid it on her easy". Telling her straight is way better than any other option. I get that it seems messed up coming off her little passionate speech for subaru but as soon as subaru finds out her feelings he doesn't lead her around or let things pass without letting rem know how he really feels. Letting her know straight away shows more than anything that he highly respects and cares for Rem even if it isn't really in the romantic way like he sees with Emilia. You may think it was better for him to lay it on easy but I see it as a good thing that he gave it to her flat out and immediately. I respect him more for doing that instead of the other options.
