So I've seen this asked in general groups before, but you guys better represent my personal readership more than any other group. I've done both first and third at this point, so I don't think you should be too biased in either direction.

I will count your vote as three votes if you also explain why in the comments!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I'm working on a short preview of a potential new series while my brain takes a break from Paladin 3 for a week, so this is leading up to something!

I tend to like 1st person because it allows the reader to experience the story as if were happening to them. It feels more immersive.

Third person for that multi point of view. At the end of the day if the details are there, either is fine.

Third person is more "invisible" to the reader and places less emphasis on the narrative character. First person can be okay, but as it doesn't get the cloak of invisibility that third person enjoys, it becomes a LOT more reliant on the character providing narrative. Going that route offers other narrative options (like the unreliable narrator), but it also means the character has to be more engaging with the reader in a tolerable manner. I have vague recollection of encountering stories where a main character probably would have been fine in third person, but due to being written in first person, it resulted in walking away from the story.

Third person because it's easier to transition following different characters. It also helps avoid ridiculous expositional dialogue.

I'm not too bothered either way. First person can be more immersive, especially when focus solely on one character's PoV and want to tell the story from their perspective including their own thoughts and judgement, allowing you to make them an unreliable narrator in a story where you want the reader to think for themselves about if the protagonist's beliefs and actions are correct or mistaken. Third person is easier to write as it's more of a storytellers perspective pretty much telling the story as the author sees it. You can easily switch between different characters and the reader tends to get a wider perspective of things, and rarely has to wonder about what's actually going on. They know, unless you the author choose to omit it until it's time for the reveal. It depends on what kind of story you want to tell.

I enjoy both first and third person narratives. Each one does something well as noted by others.

I put doesn’t matter only because there wasn’t an option for both. I really like what Ryan Rimmel does with the noobtown books where the main story is told in first person but with a few chapters in third person from a different characters perspective. So for you it would be like Theo telling his story but we can see how other characters react to him in a chapter like you do with Thalia. I think that would create an interesting dynamic.

I also enjoy first and third person. I like first person because it keeps you close to the character and it gives you a better understanding of who they are and how they are feeling at any given time. I like third person because I am a big fan of multiple perspectives and seeing how other characters experience events. I really like a combo like William mentioned above where you have some chapters from the main characters perspective but other chapters from another characters perspective or when the perspectives are changed within the same chapter with a clear indication that the perspective was changed. Sorry I couldn’t give you a definite answer on what I think is better but I have read so many books that do both first and third person so well that it is impossible to decide which is the better perspective.

I like the style of third in terms of reading flow but the focus of first so limited omniscient third person is my favorite.
