Hey, I need help again. I'm having trouble paying the first artist I showed you (sanctions), I can't get publication rights to the second cover I got (ended up being a partial tracing of Dandonfuga's work, so I can't use it) and the third artist fled to Poland (from Ukraine) and doesn't have anything to draw with right now.

So yeah, you could say my luck with AA's covers has been absolutely terrible. But not to worry, I'm finally on the verge of solving these issues and getting Amazon Apocalypse out of development hell and back on the right track. (We're nearly at the one year anniversary from when I started writing it, so this has been a long time coming).

I had to get another artist on the job of drawing a new Amazon Apocalypse cover. Once this cover is secured and editing scheduled, I will be able to comfortably work on the book without stressing about covers. But I have to choose which one I want!

Regina is probably going to get the first cover, unless another artist I have working on a different character comes through with something even better. This time I want to be absolutely certain I'm getting a cover!

So tell me which cover you would be most likely to click on!

If you'd like to mix and match features (for example, you like the face of 1, the background of 2, and the clothes of 3, let me know in the comments below!)

Face and background of #3 clothes of #1

I think the outfit in 1 looks the best. Though the weapon pose and background of 2 is the most striking. The outfit in option 2 is a little too 90s Psylocke/Elektra for me. I don't like Option 3 as it looks like a tropical paradise in clothes, pose and background so it doesn't fit the story well.

Haha, the artist actually said he wasn't sure which kind of Amazon I meant, so that one was the "Amazon rain forest" version.

I'm mostly thinking the same as other comments. #3 has a lot of sex appeal, but the way she's dressed is rather tribal/fantasy looking and doesn't really fit the idea of system apocalypse. Though taking away her clothes, pose and the background I like the looks of the girl herself the best of the 3. #1 has sex appeal too, but the outfit while sexy also has a feel of both modern dress and mixed/customised look of someone who put it together out of whatever she can get her hands on which fits the genre. All the same, while sex appeal is important this is still a action/adventure type of novel with sex appeal included and you want that indicated. #1 and #3 imply that this'll be a smut work first with the setting just being a background, while it's actually the other way around. Sytem apocalypse haremlit action adventure, with some smut added here and there to spice it up. #2 captured that feel with her pose and expression, even if the outfit makes her look more like a character from the superhero genre. So yeah, the pose of #2, outfit from #1 and the sex appeal/character design from #3 if you can somehow manage it. If you can manage to convey that it's suppose to be a modern apocalypse setting to the artist and have them manage to incorporate a bit of the scavenger/survivalist look into her outfit that would be good.

Great points. I'm compiling an email and asking for another sketch saying pretty much this. The only thing I don't like about #2 is that it makes Regina look like she wants to beat the viewer with her stick more than anything else, haha. So maybe that pose, but with a smile on her face.

I agree with number 2 being a bit x men and not like shes just made her clothes from survivalist gear, you want sexy but not here is my tits and bits . At the moment i tend to run away from covers with buxom nearly naked women flesh on them as i find it all formulated after seeing lots of the same thing i now look for something a bit different more original although being a red blooded male i like my smut now and again.

I'm thinking the outfit from #1, but keep the coat from #2, that way it isn't too sexy. I am a bit worried about audible having issues, since they're much stricter than Amazon about throwing books in Erotica. Paladin of the Sword unfortunately got shoved in Erotica, and sales have been a fraction what they would have been otherwise. I'd like to avoid that this time.

DiabolicalGenius

Yeah, you could have her relaxed and with a smile like in #1 and #3, but with a weapon at hand with the feeling that she can spring into action any time rather than the arms behind the head "look how hot I am" pose of those two.

I like #2 the most. Its background best covers "apocalypse", and the visible weapon best covers "amazon", rather than "random hotty with a horn" I'm not a fan of any of the outfits if I'm being honest. I am not a fan of sexy armor, and if this particular Amazon only weilds a sword, it would be the height of stupidity to not wear armor. Skin tight leather is fine for the limbs, bit if you want to actually live through a battle and not be covered in scars, you damn well cover your vitals. Now if the best armor material around happens to be a translucent/transparent crystal, then of course that's what you'll wear over your vitals. ;) But nobody ever does that, they just draw sexy armor with a hole in it RIGHT OVER THEIR FUCKING HEART!! That's the height of stupidity. Or maybe their "armor" is some system powered forcefield projected from some piece of jewelry. Or a tattoo. And then they can walk around naked with gear strapped to their nubile young flesh. But no one ever draws that. It's fucking boob windows. Or draw them in as they're putting on their perfectly reasonable armor but are still largely in their undies. Arguments could be made foe wearing nothing (or a skin tight body suit) under armor that happens to come with things like catheters. Okay, so sexy-dumb armor (or sexy lack of armor) may be a nerd rage subject for me. Just don't ask about what I think of the final fantasy series. Too late. ANYTHING WITH THE WORD "FINAL" IN THE TITLE SHOULDN'T HAVE SEQUELS. I think I'm done... yep.

I might have a compromise. One of the other authors I sponsor has modified the original cover for audible since they have a stick up their ass. Maybe make two covers, different enough that it's recognizable but different enough that you don't get shoved into the erotica department

MarvinKnight

Yeah, I could try that. I’ll have to wait to see what one of these covers costs first though.

MarvinKnight

Yeah, I get that, and in my head heroins always wear more practical armor. Think of these outfits more like something Regina scrounged up picking over bodies and broken storefronts after the fall. She's running around with a home-made baseball bat with nails in it (that's what the weapon on her back is supposed to be) rather than equipped for battle. I absolutely get the armor argument, loud and clear. But the data clearly shows skimpy outfit sells way, way, waaaaaaaaay more copies of a book than unskimpy... so.... it's gotta be skimpy.
