I wouldn’t use the R word, but he’s definitely a grifter. You said that it was suspicious that he’s “all of a sudden” accused of some things when he had a knowingly checkered past to begin with. He was accused of some pretty horrendous shit as far back as 2006. You can look at his content and track his drift to the right as his most conspiratorial content garnered more and more clicks and views. Media Matters has a great breakdown of this.
