PROCESS: COMIC PAGE (Patreon)

Hello my dear Patrons!

As I told you, I am deep in a new comic book, the second volume of Grémillet Sisters ("Les Soeurs Grémillet" in France).

For this project I use e style that I never used before in comics, which is a mix of pencil, watercolors and digital colors.

First of all: the script (which I don' show you here for it's in Italian XD ). Once , with the writer Di Gregorio, we decide what happens in the scéne and the dialogues, I start the storyboard stap. This is one of my favourite parts of the process. It's the most emotional part: here you make your own movie on your head, and try to put it on paper. The choices you make in storyboard will decide all the emotions that your story will communicate, so it's a crucial step.

As you can see, when I pass to the rough page, I keep all the decisions I took on the storyboard.

The rough page is done on A4 paper (yes, very small).

I scan it, put it in the right size (a little bit bigger in this case, much bigger for other projects, as for Ekhö), I print t and I pass to the light table.

Now I can re-draw it in the definitive version.

be careful not just to "calque" it! It really is a re-draw. It's important to keep the warmth of the drawing and the expressions!

Then I add the grey tones with black watercolors. The color will be added digitally over the grey values. I'm not in the color step yet, but I will show you the color proces as soon as I start it (in 2 weeks)
