The first one isn’t slang though, out of pocket can still be used to mean you have to pay for something… it’s a phrase that has been used by slang The argument is that slang doesn’t change meanings as slang Out Of Pocket has always meant that you have to pay, it’s not a slang that’s what the term was invented for, much like cool was used for temperature… now it has a slang meaning of out of line… not the same as what Sweeny is arguing
