#SundayRundown Angel, Episode 3, That Old Gang of Mine The episode draws a strong analogy between the violence of the gang toward monsters and the very real historic violence toward minorities, particularly in the American South. Consider: Lorne's bar Caritas (which means love) is a SANCTUARY where beings from all walks of life can gather peaceably and, under normal circumstances, violence would not occur there. Compare that to a church or other place of worship where people from different walks of life gather peaceably and do not expect violence. That is, until extreme violence (and I agree with you guys -- terrorism) shows up. For instance, Black churches became a target for terrorism during the Jim Crow and civil rights eras. Gio's attitude and language toward the "monster-lovers" is also reminiscent of violence during that time: "a monster-lover is just as bad as a monster, and I kill monsters." I see it as a reference to violence against allies; think of the murders of people who went South to help during the civil rights movement. All in all, it's a great episode, and I appreciated all of the commentary. Except for the discussion about whether it's okay to kill baby-eaters . . . y'all . . . really? lol

the actor playing gio (khalil kain) was on living single back in the day. he was also in one episode of friends and took an acting class from joey. they both had an audition for the same role so joey told him to "play it gay" so he would lose it. but the casting LOVED that layer and he got the job instead of joey lol
