the dub made a simple mistake, which is rare for the dub. but when the old man Zangetsu shows up, his name is blurted out to both the reader and Ichigo

A Shinigami sword called Zanpakuto but every each one of them has their own name and has 3 forms 1st normal one while they holding it like any normal sword form 2nd called Shikai which u guys already saw when Renji sword turned to a snake form and 3rd u will guys see later i‘dont want 2 spoil anything .

The Zangetsu thing is similar with how the Normies knew Kurama's name from the first episode of Shippuden. Sigh

I'm pretty sure the dub was always like this. He's name was always given to the audience but Ichigo could not hear his name.

It's unfortunate the Dub spoils it, but the name gets revealed in the next episode anyway (the scene is really important for people who've finished the manga but thats all Ill say about that 😏) Still always cool to see the hollow mask with the Soul Reaper garb

The dub was like that because it didn't realize, as per usual with dubbing at the time, that Ichigo NOT hearing his name was an important part of the story. In fact, it was so important that in the Japanese audio / sub that part was audibly distorted to the point where even the viewer couldn't understand it. Even if it's shown in the next episode, the point is that it is important to know the name.

ngl i wouldnt call that simple. the whole point of that scene was that ichigo couldnt hear zangetsu's name. so when he finally could and called it out, it was 100 times better. and while the dub isnt bad, it simply isnt as goated as the sub. SPOILER ALERT them saying bankai just hits way different in sub. also Ichigo not being able to hear "Zangetsu's" name was possibly a foreshadowing to the revelation in TYBW. Ofc, I dont think Kubo actually thought that far but it was still a cool retcon. But since the dub literally spoke his name prior it doesnt hit as hard

It was thought out that far for sure. But it’s unfortunate the dub messed it up but not a biggie imo

Zangetsu means "morning moon" or "moon visible in the morning". But the characters they use to spell it for this anime, the translation is "Slaying Moon".

The ost at 9:12 with Ichigo falling talking to Zangetsu is 'Nothing to be explained' which is Zangetsu's theme. One of the best osts especially the vocal version which played this episode

I'd imagine it get's better latter on but this is one of the few show I'll say the sub is vastly superior to dub, and as Chris said "looked at" is a translation thing. It is meant as "acknowledged/accepted"
