You're almost completely right lol. That test is done PRECISELY for the slayer to die. The older a slayer grows the more powerful she becomes, so the test is simply a means of keeping them young and compliant to the Watcher's council. It's really a patriarchal thing.

Season 3 and still mispronouncing Giles lol.

Came here to day this. Yes the watchers council are misogynistic arseholes

Blake

Also that exchange about being colorful was hilarious 😂

The Watcher Council is one of my least favorite universe things in the show. Even for an old school patriarchal organization, they're really stupid by old school patriarchal organization standards.

K Murray

Love this episode, SMG's performance is outstanding and Jeff Kober as the vampire Kralik is great too.

You guys are right. The council doesn't care if the Slayer lives or dies during the test. They are all about their relevance and keeping control/order, so it is probably actually helpful for them if the Slayer does die during the test. They get a newer younger one then, that is likely easier to control.

Pajander

Yep, they have an endless supply of new slayers but can only have one at a time (asterisk), so it literally doesn't matter to them if a slayer dies. I guess it's good that they for some reason haven't figured out that they could "kill" Faith for 5 minutes, resuscitate her, find the new active slayer and rinse and repeat to keep making more slayers.

ash is just from marking dry skin, so yes WATER (moisture) will remove it. they arent lying, you just havent tried it before.

Woooo Its Buffy Thursday! Yeah! Wooo! and this one is a going to be a good episode, its very rare when the Council makes any appearance. also just a quick curious question - Where's all the Buffy Skits? maybe a council meeting skit, or reading the Orbits... but its actually a school bulletin. lol lol

Garrett Gee

is this explained later then, cuz that wasnt at all clear from this episode... Like this test seems like it would make sense, like Iron man 3, is he Iron Man without the suit. not sure. But if they are doing it on purpose to make Buffy die, my question would be why? Or you guys spoiling future episdoes?

Chaos T

Garrett, there's really no further explanation about the test however there's other things the watchers do/don't do which confirms the test is put there to kill the Slayer. For me, something happens in season 6 that made me solidify my opinion the day of the test was nothing more than a date of expiration for the Slayer.

This is still one of my favourite episodes. It’s creepy and dark in tone, the music is on point and I love the scenes between buffy and Giles. They do a superb job. The council proving it is just a twisted power hungry group who rely on being able to control their young slayers. Oh and you saw buffy learn she was a skater back in season 2 in the flashbacks with Angel.
