"Cutting the lifespan" refers to natural lifespan (I'm assuming this refers to if you never encountered the notebook).

At this point for me it was pretty clear that Light would even throw his own family under the bus if it benefited him in some way. For me it doesn’t matter if Light was genuinely sad or not at his father’s death, but rather how he showed no remorse for leading his dad down this path. Instead of spending his last moments with his dad being there for him he instead was thinking of ways to get his dad to spend those moments to kill Mello. He used his dad as a pawn and tried to squeeze him for all his worth. Even if Mello’s people didn’t shoot his dad here Light would have likely killed his dad after 13 days anyway to make the task force think the 13 days rule was real. I don’t think it matters or Light loves his family, but rather at the end of the day he loves himself more than them and can kill them for his own benefit.

I'm glad Nahid's back, don't take so many days off from us bro I like this squad of normies & RIP to papa Yagami, Light didn't a fck I'm sure he had the emotions to play that off but he's a straight sociopath.

Exactly. They’re forgetting he was ready to kill his sister, so he’s more than capable of not caring about his father. When someone has the power to take life in a flash- they become numb to it.

Earlier Light did pretend to try and talk his dad out of it actually, talking about how the family would feel if he died. But then he also alluded to the 13 day rule thing meaning he would have to kill his own dad to keep the rule looking convincing. At the end, I can’t see it any other way than him having genuine emotions, just not about his dad dying. He starts off saying he can try to convince his dad to write the name before he died and no one would think anything of it cuz he’s emotional. Then his dad dies before writing the name. So I mean.... he’s freaking out because he’ll never get Mello’s name and take him out at this point. But on the outside it just looks like he’s grieving over his father. Which makes these “believably genuine emotions” even more fucked up. Also, it’s not that I didn’t think he’d eventually get to that point where even his own family was disposable and he wouldn’t care. It’s just that they hadn’t yet shown us how he felt about that to know if he still had some feelings and morals left, and finally revealing he might kill his own family just let’s us know he’s gone that deep already. That’s why it still shocks people even if it doesn’t surprise them.
