Laura

So glad to see so many of the gang here for one of my favourite episodes. 😊 Ziggy is a total asshole, but if you have any empathy left, spare some for him. He's just a fucked-up kid trying to do anything that will make him feel like he matters.

im glad its smart people on this panel

normies entertainment group? wow, ok intro.

Great episode. re: "Did Avon know?", I'd call your attention to something in the previous episodes that I missed on the first viewing but always stands out to me now that I know Dee's fate: In basically all the Stringer/Avon discussion scenes this season, it is clear Stringer is worried about D flipping - that would endanger stringer, who so far has escaped charges. He always asks Avon, every time, what is up with his outreach to D. He wants to know Avon has him locked down. Every time, Avon reassures Stringer. He's confident D will come around. Every time... until the last time before this episode. That last time, Avon is less confident. The convo: -------- STRINGER: You working it out with Dee? AVON: Boy got to find his own way. STRINGER: I'm saying, you know... I think we should keep reaching out to this kid. Give something to him and his girl. I don't know, show them we got a plan. Take some real estate, put it in Dee's name. He has something to come home to. AVON: Do it. Thing is, String, what happened happened, you know what I mean? Push come to shove, I've been fair to him, ain't I? STRINGER: You've been fair. Too fair. ----- "Push come to shove, I been fair to him, ain't I?" Damn. Avon may not have ordered the hit, and if Stringer had asked permission to kill Dee he might have said no, and I'm sure to his dying day he will insist that he would never do something like that to family. But deep down? Deep down I think he knew what had to be done just like Stringer did. It's hard to read that scene and think Avon didn't just greenlight the hit, even if he can't admit it to himself.

Kiana B.

did y'all not hear the conversation the guy had in the car with stringer when he was setting up the hit? avon doesn't have anything to do with d'angelo's death. hence stringer outsourcing all the way to DC so he doesn't find out. granted in the moment y'all might've not known what that was in reference to, but that was the context.

is this "preview of the video" stuff for the youtube algorithms? good mythical morning tried it briefly and it was WIDELY rejected.

lmao marketa's hate for avon is clouding her judgment a bit.

From my perspective every time Avon has alluded to taking D'Angelo out of the picture if need be, has been him just playing his role. A gangster. No real weight to any of his insinuations regarding his nephew. Image has always been his achilles heel. What people in the game think of him, and how he is perceived. The only time i feel he is truly "real" is when he is speaking to his older sister. Maybe even his pops. Overall he loves, and trusts his family more than he does anyone else. He would never put a hit out on D imo. Others may have their own interpretation on what David Simon was going for with the Avon Barksdale character, but that's just what i've gathered through my viewing of The Wire.

Kamina 1

Same. Everyone on this react crew is intelligent, and brings their A game every week. Chris does an excellent job of leading this Wire panel. The addition of P Dub has made these discussions even better.

Dee never wanted to get real with the story so the story got real with him. I liked Dee it would have been nice if he had been able to escape the life. But the reality is Dee was a drug dealing murder, that is who he was. But he never saw himself that way and that’s what led to his fall. I have never been of the opinion that Avon ordered the hit, he certainly never consciencely would order a hit on his family, this was Stringer’s call all the way. This is such an amazing episode. Every scene is great, one of my absolute favorites.

Acash33

He definitely didn’t green light the hit at all. It was basically Avon saying he’s tired of babying him and he’s going to have to grow on his own for a time.

Acash33

Image has never been a thing with Avon. The only time he brings up image is to make sure they don’t look weak which could bring new gangs coming after them. Everything about Avon was keeping a low profile. Also D was his nephew not cousin. Also Avon has never alludes to taking D out.

Dinero

Did Dee actually ever murder anyone though? Wasn't it revealed that he didn't actually murder that girl

Dinero

I'm not trying to be mean but that white guy in the middle is like an NPC. Dude barely ever says a word lmao

Dee killed someone in season 1, that's why he got demoted and was working in the pit.

Tim Xi

Are we watching the same video? Pat has the most insightful comments out of all the Normies.

Acash33

Everyone seems to forget this. Him acting stupid is the whole reason why they were investigated in the first place. Then got an attitude about his demotion.

Great reaction to one of my favourite episodes. Would have also loved to get Micky's take - any chance he'll join the couch or record his own reactions again?
