Man, I felt so bad for the girl and the lady that took him in and tried to cover for him. And those tears from the lady when realizing what Thorfinn did and what he is, man that moment hurt me.

from my perspective the old woman started crying because she saw a potentially young innocent kid, and realized the horrible events that would of had to occur for him to reach such a dark place. the tragedy of that made her cry... i think.

The scene with the older woman at the end was truly sad. It’s like the show symbolizes through her that there’s likely no turning back for Thorfinn

One of my favorite episodes. The moment where Thorfinn takes that deep breathe upon the old woman presumably getting cut down or whisked away, where he accepts that he is now a monster, and then lets go of that breathe and just has those dead eyes... it’s so amazing and so sad. Reminds me of modern day child soldiers throughout Africa and other war torn parts of the world. Heartbreaking.

War, like any major events in a person's life, changes you, and it seems like Thorfin has made the decision that avenging his father is worth the heinous acts he will help commit. Whether he can live with that is up to his conscious. Kinda of a mild version of the joker theory of "everyone is just one bad day away", or some people just need a little push.
