Black Sails dropping earlier than usual ! Yaaay ! :D Get the full crew for next week guys. :) Oh btw, did you know the man playing Captain Berringer (the red-coat captain) is the brother of Toby Stephens (Flint) and they are Dame Maggie Smith's sons ? :)

And *this* is when I really started hating Billy. His hate has consumed him.

So, one of the things I personally love about this show is how I can be torn between perspectives of characters. Emotionally I am all on the side of Madi and Flint, but I also feel the same way about Max. Max has been trying for nearly the entire show to make Nassau a place that can function in civilization - a goal that was shared by Thomas Hamilton, Flint, Elenor, etc at one time or another. She sees the current governance and knows it isn't right, but also knows the oncoming onslaught of the pirates isn't the answer either. An interesting thing the co-creator of Black Sails said about Max on the Fathoms Deep podcast (highly recommend it btw): "Max is the only character who does not allow violence to be the only solution to a seemingly impossible situation." Chis is absolutely right in the discussion here too. I have thoughts about Elenor and Rodgers that I can't get into until later, but I don't think we are meant to view their relationship as being necessarily right or healthy. Back in season three, Elenor felt like Rodgers was the first person to see her for who she was - knowledge of what she was capable of - and to respect her for it. She felt like she could stand beside him. But in this season already we have seen that being the wife of Governor Woodes Rodgers is another matter than being an important informant/strategist.

The episode of "Dammit, Billy!!". Billy has clearly lost sight of the big picture. He's too wrapped up in his own anger instead. The show does a masterful job of making you see every one's side. I understand Max's desire to live in a world that isn't lawless but I'm fully on board with Flint and Madi's desire to end slavery and end England's strangle hold on the world.

The "I am a new beginning for Nassau" speech from Silver sends shivers down my spine every single time I hear it. Masterful voice acting and writing with that scene!

Did anyone tell you guys that Captain Berringer (Chris Larkin) is Toby Stephens brother and that their mother is Maggie Smith?

bits

Whoa! I had no clue. I just looked up family pictures and the are ADORABLE ❤

My Toasty Toast

So the guy playing the Royal Marine Captain (jerk who cut off DeGroot’s ear) is Chris Larkin, Toby Stephens (Flint’s) brother in real life. They’re both the kids of Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter)
