Watching them theorize about all this stuff makes me appreciate this last season even more, and I always loved it anyway. The way they play with the audience's perception is so freaking cool. Lindelof is a beast.

RE: Eloise, she knew what she did throughout the series because she had Faraday’s journal (which includes everything about Desmond), which she inherited from him after he died. That’s why in the off-island events of ‘The Variable’, after she’s successfully sent Daniel off to the island, she explains to Penny at the hospital that for the first time she doesn’t know what will happen next.

I always interpreted the monster getting off the island situation (obviously there’s more info to come in the series) as being less about him personally and more about what he is and what he brings with him (the sickness). It certainly fits with what we’ve seen and how the threat of MIB has been described.
