I think you guys misinterpreted melorons abilities: His first ability is to turn invisible. His second ability allows him to "erase" his existence while he holds his breath. (Aka. you cant see, feel, hear, smell him. Basically his first ability just applied to the other senses) His third ability allows him to apply the second one to anyone he touches. So he wasnt stopping time, the bird just didnt realize it was being touched

The conversations between Gon and Meleoron are so interesting. Gon says he trusted mel bc he seemed human and Meleoron followed Gon because he saw a vicious beast in him. I love the duality of that.
