Shit you made me nervous with that description that Suraj and Chris weren't going to be here for this. Luckily the thumbnail relieved me. This episode is right up there alley.

Bisibia

I love Suraj and Chris... but Rana is the truest of the SHIELD fans. Her not being there crushes me.

Thanatos

Hey Chris, if you like time travel storylines, you guys should check out Steins;Gate. It's an anime that has a really interesting and fun storyline involving time travel and the consequences of abusing it. Its not really similar to the many battle shonen type anime's that you guys been watching like MHA or Naruto so it may be interesting to have a different type of anime genre on your channel. I think it would be a show you and suraj would enjoy greatly. Also the dub is great.

Thanatos

I know your guy's schedule is kind of filled right now since you guys moved MHA to Wednesday but it would be cool to have it on your next anime poll.

Andrew Courtney

Bootstrap Paradox is the term your looking for.

The fact they missed the "Zephyr One 2018" subtitle caused a lot of focus on going back to "2022". Pretty sure when I watched this at the time I just assumed they'd go back to basically the same time they left in the diner. Also Fitz never definitively said they've done this multiple times. He said "for all I know we've tried a thousand times", but he's only experienced it once. I interpreted that the same as Chris, it's only "1 loop".

Macy

One of my fave episodes! Plays to my love of time travel!

Christopher simeon

Nobody explain anything lol. Everything will be cleared up by 5x10 So nice to have robin as mays daughter. She finally got to raise one and an inhuman one too.

There are three ways to think about time travel: Back to the Future style (one timeline that can change, which Voss believes) or Endgame style (you can hop between timestreams but you cannot change your past, which is how there is "zombie" Gamora) or determinism (fate is set in stone, which Fitz believes in this flashback). Obviously determinism is super depressing since it means nobody has free will. And BTTF-style introduces paradoxes. So I personally prefer Endgame style but up to this episode AoS has not revealed which they use yet.

OMG, it's not that complicated Mickey, From a character AGE point of view the flashbacks are actually flashforwards to older versions of the characters after they return from the future. And yes in the same exact time there's 2 Fitz's, a slightly younger one frozen in space taking the long way to the future and the older one that's already been there and returned.

Jonathan Jones

The conversation y’all had immediately after this episode was the same for all of us when we watched it lol

Zach Sonnenblick

how hard is it to have the FULL group react to shield? youre literally in the endgame. in the final stretch. and 5 straight episodes have missed core reactors. we as fans like to watch your reactions because of the people in the reactions. thats the whole point. suraj and mickey missed half the season and now youre gonna upload without rana the biggest fan most entertaining to watch...like common now I hate being that guy to complain but this is fucked. in every show youve reacted to the core group has always been there. why not record in advance multiple episodes when the group is together. or wait for everybody to be together. theres no point releasing reactions on time if they continue to be without your group. are we gonna get even a single reaction with the entire squad. this is insane. 6 straight weeks.

Karim kenneth baash

So the past that you are seeing thats them but they never time travel. Thats the first time line.

Aes86

Technically they are in the "infinity War" not the Endgame.

Jason Bronson

Wrong, the flash back timeline is what would of happened had they not been sent to the future.

That's not true. Re-watch the scene with Fitz and May when he said "Robin couldn't change it, Voss couldn't change it, even Daisy couldn't change it. She knew what was gonna happen, and she still destroyed the world". The fact that he says Daisy knew what was gonna happen means they were in the future and they saw Earth destroyed, and then they somehow found a way back to 2018, and since then, they are trying to stop the destruction of the Earth, but nothing seems to be working (at least in 2022, when the conversation between Fitz and May is taking place). Not to mention the fact that Fitz mentions Voss, who, as we all know, is in the future, so this also indicates that this conversation between May and Fitz happens after they come back from the future.

It’s a flash sideways. Not a flashback or flash forward. “2022” is a possible future with all things being constant. However, don’t focus on 2022. If they do go back, they are going to the original timeline - before the crisis that would spiral into the future they are currently experiencing. So, Fitz is still floating in space in that timeline (I hate to use timeline because it muddles explanation a bit).

The timeline is a bit confusing . But I found using Fitz as the constant helpful, like this: -Fitz and the team were eating dinner, lights go out, team gets grabbed, Fitz stays behind (2017) -Fitz gets out of prison, meets Enoch freezes himself and sleeps for like 75 years (2017/18 - 2091) -Fitz wakes up, meets the rest of the team who jumped to 2091 through the Monolith -Now the flashbacks/flash-sideways/flash-forwards. The whole team, including Fitz time-travel back to 2018 as seen from May flying the Zephyr. The planet has been destroyed by Daisy. But because the team jumped back in time, there are/will be two Fitzes, one with the team on the Zephyr/ in the Lighthouse and one frozen in space waiting to wake up. Hopefully that helps

Mickey the confused strikes again.

Zach Sonnenblick

theres zero need for anybody to explain this shit. allow them to figure it out for themselves by watching future episodes...just as you all were able to do. i guarantee many people didnt understand every possible detail after just one watch. AOS does a great job being able to explain shit...maybe it takes a few extra episodes but so what? thats PART of the experience. quit ruining it for them. they dont need answers let them have fun with it. just as we all did.

Christopher simeon

Exactly. Nobody was there to explain it to me the show did and I got it. I think the normies should have someone read the comments on YouTube and here for all of season 5 because people can’t help themselves. The show knows they will be confused and the next two episodes explain everything if after that they don’t understand that’s when you tell them not before. Jesus people....

Dylan Carpenter

Don't know if Suraj ever remembered it or not, but the type of paradox he was trying to think of the name of at the end there is the Bootstrap Paradox. That's the "self-creating" time loop one.
