In the original I'm pretty sure Goku was actually killed by Frieza and came back to life as a result of the wish to Shenron.

Goku was already brought back by Shenron before. Shenron cannot bring the same person he brought back before. That is why Goku was so mad at Krillin being killed by Freeza is because he couldn’t be brought back by Shenron again and at the time the Namek DBs were gone.

But yeah. As the others are saying. The DBZ Abridged movies "Tree Of Might", "Lord Slug", "Cooler's Revenge" (the first of the two Cooler movies) and "Episode of Bardock" (not "The Father of Goku" which you've already seen) are part of Season 2. So it's recommended you watch those before starting S3

Honestly when it comes to the actual dbz movies, it's a hit or miss for me. But if you're talking about the dbz abridged movies, I can recommend them enough. The best part is they always keep the abridged movies cannon with the abridged series.
