How did you all misunderstand the parting scene between Sasuke and Sakura so much....Kishimoto talking about the scene “Growing distant, towards darkness.. the one to appear before him as he began to leave was Sakura. To the back of a Sasuke that tried to face away from what was left behind, Sakura desperately conveys her feelings. Bright and earnest feelings - feelings that did not want to lose Sasuke. It’s always just focused on action. It’s so dumb because Naruto is an emotional story as well not just all about fighting. Sasuke definitely comes off as a toxic fuck boy in this, but I think the underlying tone was that he knew what he was doing and he couldn’t let Sakura follow him bc she honestly would have probably been killed by the Sound 4, or died following his path chasing love that he felt he’d never be able to give. I think that’s why he said those lines where “he didn’t remember” or “she’s still annoying”. He did remember and he did have some form of affection for her, but his decision was already made, and it outweighed the feelings he had for her. But he also knew she would not let him go. So he tried to push her away verbally, and it didn’t work so he had to knock her out on some Vegeta/Kid Trunks ish. The whole scene is pretty fucked up though so I can see where the toxicity shows for a lot of people lmao

i always thought the main reasoning as to why sasuke is so easily drawn by evil and makes these decisions is mostly because of the curse mark. like its corrupting his mind to orochimaru.

Sakura is so trash, even when Sasukes clearly leaving for his own reasons she tries to make it about her. Then tries to "confess her love" as if thats gonna do anything, like he wasnt already blatantly aware of it already. Worst anime character ever. At least she gets a slightly better in Shippuden

Also Sakura has a childhood crush that probably would’ve went away if she wasn’t on a squad with him. Being on a squad with him made that crush develop into actual love because of how much she learned about him instead of just being attracted to his looks. If Sakura was on another squad then she probably wouldn’t felt so strongly about him to the point where all she cares about is him. That’s just my interpretation

I think I have boiled my main problem with Sakura down to, not actually being a bad character, but a bad character to be in a tree-man-band with Naruto and Sasuke. A lot of three man bands in fiction, especially such as this, boils down to: The leader, The lancer(the second in comand, that in many ways has the closest and most complicated relationship with the leader, and represent the opposite of the leader and at the same time mirroring the leaders character in some way) and The heart. At first glance you could say that Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke fit that pretty well. Naruto being the leader(or at the very least the protagonist) Sasuke being the lancer(representing a lot of thecharateristics I mentioned before) and Sakura being the heart. The hearts fuction in the team is often to be the sort of emotionel core and ground the other characters in what is often a quite "eventfull" world. That is perhaps a slightly reductive way of describing the heart, but you get the idea. The problem with Sakura being the heart in the trio is that, that is bacically Narutos role. Besides his whole "crouching moron, hidden badass" that he has going on, a huge part of is character is being the emotionel core of the story, not just because he is the protagonist but of the way he interacts with the other characters around him. A part of this you see in his whole "talk no jutsu-thing". So whenever Sakura tries to fill the role of "The heart"she can't do it too much or too well, or she will be encroaching on Narutos territory.

Sorry that ended up being so long ;) I could actually keep going on how Sakura actually in my oppinion has a lot of cool defining characteristics, but they always seem to overlap with someone elses characteristic, so she can't shine too much in any of them, orshe will be outdoing someone else in thier core characteristic, and as a result, she ends up being kind of average, or really good, but not as goos as someone else in a lor of things, wich in turn just makes her character seem.. underutilized at best, extremely annoying at worst...

Many people fail to realize how good Sakura's character arc is. Her whole character arc is about her not being as useful as Naruto and Sasuke. She's average at everything aside from Genjutsu, but Sasuke is good at genjutsu.

This is the one time I'll be one of the haters on the reaction. I wish they tried a wee bit harder to absorb the moment. They were at the start of Sakura's soliloquy but then they started realizing they might get really sad and started making light of the situation. Its fine tho they can react however they want. I think Rana was about to cry but they nerfed it. Still love you guys but disappointing.

"You're --STILL-- annoying" Sasuke definitely remembered. Everything he did there was to try to push Sakura away. "I'm walking a path the rest of you can't follow" He knew it would be too dangerous to give her the chance to tail him. Who knows what the sound 4 would do if they found out someone was on their tail, and Sasuke knows that they're stronger than even him. This, with the fact that he said "Thank you for everything" before he put her to sleep makes it kind of obvious that Sasuke had good intentions for his friend here. I'm not a big Sakura fan by any means, but I think the biases some of you have against her clouded this scene for you.

Bro re-watching this episode reminds me of how Kakashi's perfect line of "Those who abandon the mission are scum, but those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum" rings true from Sasuke's first introduction where he says "I have a mission, to eliminate a certain someone". He is presented with the choice here to follow through with the mission, however at the cost of abandoning his friends.

Sakura is amazingly infatuated and diluted. She's 12 years old, claims to be "in love" with him but literally doesn't even know much about him or who he is. Granted, Sasuke isn't easy to open up, but she's so far up his butt how COULD she get to know him? She doesn't understand a thing about his"pain", losing family is not the same as losing a crush. She's just a desperate little fangirl in love with the idea of love and fixated on him.

I think what you're over looking is that with Sasuke's goal being what it is and everyone preaching at him he does in fact understand that acomplishing his goal will leave him more hollow. He doesn't mind "giving up" his free will because has made the decisions to commit to revenge and not actually face life after it in anyway. It's difficult to realistically understand tha mentality with having ever dealt with true depression or at least suffering almost unbearable grief

I think you're ignoring the fact that she is 12 years old. Kids at that age feel like they understand themselves and everyone around them. At this point, Sakura has no goal in life besides being with Sasuke, so of course she's "infatuated and diluted" to the point of saying anything to be with him. There are adults who go through this same thing, so a 12 year old who's got hormones and emotions racing through their head, hasn't yet found a purpose and is still figuring out who they are shouldn't be so ridiculed, even if what she's saying is stupid. She's flawed, but realistically flawed.

When I watched this when it aired, I was so sad he was leaving and Sakuras confession was sad as well. She did love him and didn’t want to break the team up with sasuke leaving. She had her instincts right and tried to get some sense into him but sasuke was already determined to sever his ties to become stronger. In a way, he’s using orochimaru to get to his goal. Also cut Sakura some slack. She’s 12 and in love. Lots of girls her age has been in her situation and I’ll give y’all a pass since I know guys don’t know how to express or relate such feeling when they’re around their friends. Only Rana was able to understand Sakuras sadness and I thank you for that rana. Sakura doesn’t deserve to be hated just because she’s a teenager in love.
