Would have been cool to see him bust out the Taijutsu without the knowledge of the super detailed anime episode title. If only there was a Rhop for Naruto! Honestly, i always found the Sasuke vs Gaara fight kinda boring. I might have thought it was cool if I had never seen Rock Lee vs Gaara. This is basically the lite version of that fight. It's just a standard cool anime fight. Each animated action series has a fight style that makes it unique. AtLA and LoK had fast paced martial art fights that for the most part didn't last long, like an actual fight. The best Naruto fights have always been the slow tactical ones like with Shikamaru or Naruto. They always make such unique unconventional plans, which is fitting since this is a show about ninjas who were more known for stealth and tactics against the better trained and equipped samurai.

This part of their fight isn’t interesting because it’s not really the focus of the story. It’s more about Sasuke being back & Gaara and his motivations. I think the continuation of them later is dope tho

About the stairwell scene, naruto being worried is canon, since it was in the manga. The long drawn out flashback and them sitting in silence is anime padding though. And yeah, next few episodes are lit

Starting next episode through episode 85 is the best part of the entire series (IMO). Good fights, good story telling and y’all will get to meet my favorite character of the series

Well these days, people say there's filler in stuff like Avatar: The Last Airbender even though there is no manga. So filler is also just anything that pads out the story more than necessary, particularly if it's an entire episode.

Always been a big Naruto fan. Read all of the manga in addition to completing the anime. I tried rewatching some of these episodes recently and good god the pacing and filler is absolutely atrocious. I just gave up. It didn't seem quite so bad the first time around but I guess back then I was watching One Piece and Bleach which were just as bad, if not worse. Compared to current seasonal shounen anime this might as well be the stone ages now. lol

yeah this stretch of episodes is fun and definitely has some memorable moments, but even from a purely technically standpoint so many of the upcoming fights in shippuden are better animated/choreographed. chuunin exams invokes a lot of nostalgia but it's also kind of dated imo

"when everything else fails you become chocolate ice cream?" lololol it really does look like ice cream. i've never noticed that before. spiky, lethal, sentient ice cream but dessert nonetheless. and the dual images of sasuke and lee before sasuke punched gaara were awesome! it's like sasuke was a proxy for lee in that moment, getting back at him for the serious injury he inflicted. your discussion was on point too! i can't wait until you see the next 10 eps and what unfolds! i'm especially excited for 71, 72, 77, 80, 84 and 85! thanks for keeping us updated on your timeline. i was curious where you were vs what’s been posted so far. good to hear you’re binging on monday :]
