It was mentioned before a few times in previous episodes, but yes: If you die in the game you die in real life. That's what makes the game dangerous. I'm pretty sure Gon and Killua weren't told otherwise, I just think they weren't prepared to see a dead body so soon and were surprised to see it as a reality.

the auction description for the game in the auction book was that its a game where you can die for real and the auctioneer makes it clear that 2 of the players whose copies are being auctioned off died in the game which means they die in real life. so gon and kil are aware of the danger never knew people didnt like greed island. its always been my favorite arc in hxh

People don't dislike it. They think it's the weakest ( I don't agree). But when each arc is amazing it doesn't really matter where u rate them on a list.

guys the players actually die, its not just an in game death. one of the characters mentioned losing your data, cards, and ring if you die and other players can't take that because a person was killed. they didn't mention deaths only being in game.

This arc is good. Maybe it looks worse when you compare it to other arcs that feel like masterpieces but that doesn't make this bad by any stretch.

Yeah, if you leave the game and come back, all "debuffs" are purged from you. But you also lose some of your cards (I think the ones in the "free" slots"). So you give them to someone else in the game before leaving so that they can keep them for you when you come back.

Hunter x Hunter throws a lot at you. I know some times you guys aren’t able to meet up again right away which makes it harder for you to remember details. Maybe you should have one of you guys take some notes on certain things so in case you aren’t able to meet up again in a few weeks you can look up the notes before you watch the episode to help refresh your memory. I totally understand if you don’t want to do it and with subs it is harder to write notes and pay attention to the subtitles. I know you guys are afraid to look things up on the internet for fear of being spoiled.

I was surprised so many people disliked agreed Island arc or thought it was the weakest. Personally I thought the Hunter Exam arc was the weakest arc (not bad just the weakest compared to all the arcs) and I enjoyed Greed Island more than Heaven’s Arena arc.

Ignore the "weakest arc" BS. It's subjective like anything else, and I suspect many of the people who say this only heard it from the some reviewer or somewhere else and now think it's all their own idea. While I've liked some arcs more than others, personally never felt the need to compare the arcs in terms of "strength" whatever that means, they each served a purpose in the story. Its of course perfectly fine if you guys don't like the arc, just saying you shouldn't let people's opinions about it influence you or affect your initial hype.

As many state it above this arc is awesome. I actually prefer this one that the york new one, but it can feel less important just because the next one is like the best arc of all arcs. Also that bluray tease for the next arc killed me XD Please do 2 a week once you finish greed island I believe you will enjoy it more that way or it can be a little slow at times.

for me, York New is the best arc, this and CA has some great moments, but for me, we are past the peak of the show.

This arc was the arc where I started to really get into the show originally. York New was fun for certain moments but Kurapika really brings down that arc for me as I think he's a trash character with uninteresting abilities. Greed Island was a wonderful journey, I could have watched an entire series based on the game.

Oof, Kurapika is one of my favorites and the Spider are far more interesting than the bad guys of Greed Island, which is really it's biggest weakness as an arc. That said, as long as they can actually follow the constant card information, Greed Island is still damn good. I just wonder how much they will miss from the tiny subtitles flashing on screen and the fact that they can't pause it to read every time.
