Troy is my fav character... so this sucked. But Donald Glover has become a cultural icon for our generation and has hit homeruns with everything he's done. I feel lucky we had him in Community as long as we did. There was no containing this dude's star power. Plus... really nice sendoff. Hit an emotional level Community rarely goes for. Thank God Harmon is back to write the episodes, cause it's gettin progressively harder to rely on the characters' deliveries as they disappear from the show. 2 down. :(

This episode was made and aired before "floor is lava challenge" videos were viral thing, that's why they call it "hot lava" and noone actually yells "floor is lava" in the episode which was a big part of the challenge/meme.. watching it more recently I was bummed it didn't match the meme exactly, in hindsight would have been funny for Abed to come onto the school intercom and with no warning just yell "floor is lava" randomly, and everyone jumps into action knowing what he means, like the meme.

Donald Glover chose to leave the show to focus on his then budding music career and other projects. As heartbreaking as it is to see Troy leave, we may not have gotten Childish Gambino and Atlanta otherwise. It’s also worth noting that this was one of the Russo Brothers’ last episodes directing Community. At this point they were already finishing work on Winter Soldier and just been signed on for Civil War and needed to devote all their time to the MCU. Community lost two of its best directors, but we gained Infinity War and Endgame. Bittersweet farewells.

I love this episode so much. As someone with autism it's always hard for me to express how situations can affect me more deeply than they would others, so I really connected with Abed in this. It's rare I can say an episode of a tv show has changed something in my life but this? My brother has trouble knowing how distressed I am but if it's really bad I can say "floor is lava" and he knows exactly what level I'm at. This show means so much to me.
