This show is amazing, but it's first season is the weakest. Trying too hard to be The Office. Once Adam and Rob join, the show really takes off and gets arguably as good as peak-level Community and maybe even The Office.

The show's writers went and spoke to a bunch of low level city government bureaucrats as research. The character of Ron Swanson came partially from a guy they met who said he was a libertarian. When asked why a libertarian would work for the government he said, "I'm taking them down from the inside."

you know what now that i'm seeing this episode again i don't think s1 is as bad as i remember it being. definitely not the strongest but definitely not as bad as the office s1 but i prefer this show over that one in general anyways.

30 Rock - Parks and Rec - Community - The Office We had that one year when network television was unbelievable. Unfortunately, the masses chose Big Bang Theory, and NBC has sucked ever since they gave up on real shit in favor of stupid sitcom trash.

This was originally supposed to be a spinoff of The Office centered around Rashida Jones' character but they dropped that. They kept the "documentary" style for shooting the episodes. Also Aubrey Plaza's character of April was created *for* her. She was an intern(?) and already an aspiring stand-up comic and they loved her deadpan humor.

Damn I wish they were watching The Big Bang Theory! It's way better than Parks and Rec and The Office because it has a laugh track! How else am I supposed to know when to laugh?

GUYS fully commit to this. The first season is okay but man the rest is just the best funniest most heartwarming thing ever. You will fully miss out if ya skip this one so im glad youre doing it :)

lol I know all the comments are about how much better it gets... but I laughed pretty hard along with you guys at this episode. Yea, it gets way better... but this aint too bad at all. Especially now that the actors are all famous and we know them so much better.

I've never understood why everyone is so hard on the first season. It's still funnier then a lot of other comedies, it's just not AS funny as the rest of the show, since they were still just doing "The Office but low level government."

Season one just has a different tone than the rest of the seasons. It was a little more over the top goofy performances. They still had it in the other seasons but it was a little more nuanced. I liked the first season but rest are soo much better. The final season was epic in their concept. Also, Ron Swanson is the greatest man who ever lived.
