Well.... messed up childhoods seem to be common-place in the Horseman lineage.

One of my favorite episodes in the series. That duet between the past and the present is stunning

Season 4 is full of really deep stuff. Bojack Horseman keeps on going strong!

No it’s supposed to be a good thing that Bojack is moving on from the past because if you don’t you become a crusty old man who doesn’t want to live and is divorced from society or a lobotomized mother who’s happier because she forgot how to feel. Or a horse who sits in his house and acts like his life is a sitcom where you never need to grow and change to be a better person.

Bojack destroying the home was a direct attack on the Dragonfly. His reason for destroying it were actually him telling off the guy for how he lived. It happened to fit for him as well...though his reaction is probably a bit harsh.

"Well that half you can keep."

This is such a great episode, I love the duet. Bojack is one of those shows that really does get better with each season, season 4 and 5 have the best depictions of abuse and mental illness I have ever seen on tv, which is impressive seeing as this started out as a generic adult comedy show about a talking horse.

Holy shit, rewatching this episode I caught so much more of the symbolism than I did the first time. I’m glad you guys observed a lot more of it than I did. I love how they had BoJack unknowingly go back to the place where his mom had one of her most traumatic childhood experiences in that duet scene, showing how the traumas and abuses inflicted on children are involuntarily repeated generation to generation. Beatrice’s mom taught Beatrice to never love anyone, and Bojack subconsciously repeats that by his inability to care about anybody but himself. That’s some deep shit.

Driving the cars would be tricky, but you could definitely stage the rest of the side-by-side narratives. Creative use of lighting would be helpful.
