Apparently the dean in this episode was a parody of Dan Harmon.

Dan Harmon originally wanted Mark Hamill to be the statue, and Mark Hamill sent him a really nice personal letter that basically said "Look, I get the joke and it's really funny, but also the point is kind of that my career is kinda over and I'm not really a celebrity you'd jump to, and I'm not ready to make that my identity yet"

Also Suraj was basically right about Chevy Chase - they've talked about how this whole season they were finding excuses to either have him in scenes alone or barely any screen time. This episode he's in a trailer, last episode he was doing the paint antics. There's episodes later in the season that just involve him walking from Point A to Point B. It's *really* fun to watch the Pierce stuff knowing they are trying to creatively solve the Chevy problem through story

And even then, Mark Hamill is Luke Skywalker, *the* Hero, from one of the biggest franchises in cinematic history, and the kind of demographic Community appeals to is also likely going to know him as one of, if not *the* definitive take on the Joker. No matter what happens to his career, he'd never really work as a Greendale-produced celebrity.
