DEUS EX MACHINA!! Locke episodes are always the best. Enjoy Terry O'Quinn's terrific performance as John Locke as Nikki reacts to another ep! Tried to squeeze the best bits into here so enjoy it--you are getting another one in a bit!!

Why do you think the island took away Locke's legs momentarily? Are we to believe that Jacob 'took away' the legs to stop Locke from going towards the beachcraft and was MIB influencing his hallucinations/dreams to get him TO the beachcraft? In order for Boone to die and the candidates to kill each other off or themselves? Maybe I'm thinking too hard into it! Enjoy the first mini appearance of Desmond!

Lost - 1x19 Deus ex Machina - Nikki Reacts

What is dues ex machina vs what was always meant to happen? Enjoy another episode of Lost today with Season 1 Episode 19 on Nikki Reacts! This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. Terry O'Quinn's acting as John Locke is phenomenal and unmatched in network TV even today. Every scene with his dad was spot on and the emotional beat at the end hits me hard every time even while editing and watching the scene over and over. Man...John Locke is the saddest motherfucker in the history of television...

"Deus Ex Machina" is Latin not Spanish. Latin almost always uses C's as hard K sounds. Pretty good Latin pronunciation though.

"I've done everything you've wanted me to do, so why did you do this to me!?" Always gives me chills.

Same! Credit to the writers for really nailing the interplay btwn flashback & island scenes in this one: that scene hits so hard cuz we see his cries at the hatch echo his cries outside his father's house and we're primed to be on his side, BUT his line "why did you do this to me" also seems crazy self-involved when you think about it--Boone is dying slow and painful and for Locke it's something that happened to *him*, was unfair to *him*? Where does that path end... Ahh can't wait to see Nikki's reaction to the Jack/Locke scenes in the finale

I knew Deus Ex Machina from the video game.

PS

Wow this was recorded before March 24, from what Nikki said. Suraj is sitting on 2 months of Lost reactions.

We’ve been recording two at a time each week! But I’ve only been able to have time for 1 Lost edit a week. Trying to push it to more but I don’t want to hand this show off to another editor because I love it too much.

“Deus ex Machina” is Latin not Spanish. It translates as “God from/ out of the machine/ scheme.” Its aterm used in theater, film, and literature to describe when something is resolved basically an act of god. In Ancient Greek and Roman tragedy plays this happened a lot — take the end of the Bacchae where Dionysus exiles Cadmus and Agone or the end of Iphengina at Aulis where Artemis saves Iphegina and replaces her with all deer.

Have you guys seen Twin Peaks? If this episode freaked you out you'd love it.
