Wow guys! This episode though!!! This was the first time I had to sit there and rewatch an episode of Avatar right away just to witness it again. What an amazing piece of storytelling! I hope you enjoy our reaction to Avatar: The Last Airbender! Book 3 Chapter 6 The Avatar and The Fire Lord! Our review at the end cuts out a little because the camera battery died. I don't know if you guys noticed, but in the last scene with Zuko and Iroh every time it cuts to Zuko, he is in the dark and the camera is coming from inside the cell showing bars in front of him and every time they cut to Iroh, he is in the light and you cannot see the bars.

I love this episode for many reasons. One is that Sozin himself is not a bad egg. He was also capable of great good. He had a moral compass at one point, but made a misguided decision that went out of control and corrupted him. After that, you see the downward trend of his family line, to the more dickish Azulon (who still cared about Iroh), to the completely psychopathic Ozai and Azula. Sozin started the war with a seemingly noble, but highly misguided intention, which has turned into nothing more than a lust for power over the century.

The editing was pretty much perfect (You're the man Twinkletoes) I think I'm going to watch it again. Also, Suraj, if I remember correctly (I'm sorry if I don't), you lost one of your animal friends not long ago. Never forget: "Some friendships are so strong, they can even transcend.. lifetimes." I feel like Sozin came to help, and actually meant to do so. He showed up, tried to stop the second volcano, and then had to retreat with Roku when it became obvious there was nothing he could do. However, when the opportunity presented itself for him to not do anything and let Roku die, he took it. If he had just come to kill him he could have easily done so, and there would have been no one around to contest it.

I agree, deep down I think he never hated or even disliked Roku himself, but just the circumstances of Roku being the Avatar and him not being on the same page as Sozin.

A lot of people question why Sozin went to help Roku. I believe it was bc his first instinct was let me help my long time friend, then while he was there, he realized the opportunity that without Roku he could bring "prosperity" to the world

I agree, I think his first intention was to help Roku, but when he saw that Roku was going to die, he seized the opportunity, and left him.

The voice actor for Iroh died near the end of season 2 and the episode of tales of ba sing se when it says in memory of Mako with Irohs heart breaking brave soldier boy song is actually in memory of the the voice actor whos name is mako. which is why Iroh sounds a bit different in season 3.

The hardest element for an Avatar to master isn't necessarily the opposite of the element they were born with but the element that's the opposite of their personality. Aang had a hard time with Earth not because he was an air bender but because his free, pacifistic, personality was the opposite of what's required with Earth. It's also why he has a hard time with fire as he views it as harmful.

Aang didn't really have a problem with fire from the beginning tho, he actually seemed like a natural at it. It was only when he burned Katara that he sort of repressed his firebending

There's really no proof of that Gabriella. Aang struggled with earth because it was his natural opposite, just like Roku struggled with waterbending because it was his natural opposite.
