Jet is dead. Unfortunately the writers confirmed it. They were unable to show it explicitly because of Nickelodeon's censorship, but they tried to use Toph and Katara's skills to confirm it.

I always found it weird that Aang didn't protect Jet from that attack. Maybe he didn't expect Long Feng could earthbend.

He is definitely dead lol (talkin bout Jet), that is the best way to kill of a character in a kid's show. Lol while this show is, in nahid's words, not a kid's show, it was made for a kid's audience so they won't really show an important character die except in this fashion. They give enough hints in this episode that he dies (katara can't heal him, the archer guy talking for the first time, toph saying he is lying, etc)

Iroh's speech to Zuko still gives me chills till this day. You can tell when Iroh, he wasn't just speaking to Zuko but to all the viewers. Such a powerful message.

Such a great episode, I find myself saying that a lot with this show but it's true. Appa's return was great and Aang hugging him at the end had just so many feels. So sad about Jet dying though. Even though Azula is evil I really enjoyed seeing her completely emasculate and humiliate Long Feng in front of the Dai Lee, he had it coming.

The writing is pretty clever here in drawing the parallels between Jet and Zuko and the inner conflicts within both characters. Both are obsessed with what they think their purpose in life is (fighting firebenders and capturing the avatar, respectively). Both keep getting into deeper and deeper trouble in pursuing those goals, while the ones that care for them keep telling them to stop. Jet is ultimately brainwashed by the Dai Li and fights against what he believes in, but Zuko's brainwashing seems to be far more insidious (everything he does is because he believes it will restore his honor and please his father). And I think where the characters differ is that Jet wasn't willing to drop his obsession, and it got him killed. Zuko takes the chance to listen to Iroh here, and it's implied he may finally be letting go of his dangerous obsession at long last. I could be off here, but I really think that's what the writers were trying to do since having the two characters meet in the Serpent's Pass episode. (I will note this isn't a unique theory/insight and has been mentioned by others as well, you can read more about it on reddit and other places, but beware of spoilers).

Jet is dead, but the writers of the show could not show it outrightly since Jet was a kid. And the Rough Rihnos were a band on their off days.

Also take notice on how Mako raises his voice at certain points. He raises it when he says "Frozen to death", I like this because it shows Iroh's anger at Zuko but how he feels for him too, he was probably so worried he would've lost him and it show's in the emotion put into the speech.

Fun fact: The term "Laogai" is an abbreviation for Laodong Gaizao, which means "reform through labor", and refers to the use of prison labor in the People's Republic of China. The Laogai are a series of camps where opponents of the Chinese Communist Party are sent to work as slave labor. When Iroh yells at you, you know you done fucked up! The Gaang and the Freedom Fighters honestly make a great team! That moment when they basically killed a kid... This was confirmed outside of the show due to the fact Nickelodeon didn't want a kid being brutally killed onscreen. Even without the confirmation though, I feel they pretty much confirmed it on the show. From Jet's life flashing before his eyes to the slow-mo to Long Feng's "demise" comment and to Toph's "He's lying". REUNITED AND IT FEELS SOO GOOD!! <3
