Angel - initially I thought Holtz was sincere in his actions and words to Connor. That his vengeance wasn't worth destroying Connor. And that Justine acted alone and manipulated Connor to believe Angel did it. Would've made an interesting character development for Holtz to forgive Angel. But makes sense he was really just playing the long game all along. Could've fully redeemed Holtz' character if he was sincere, but makes sense as a villain that he always acted out of vengeance.

Some others already pointed it out but I think you're misremembering the Spike backstory episode. I'm not a Spike apologist but I do think he's a good complex character. At the end of the "fool for love" episode when Buffy rejects him he's 100% an incel but when he's rejected as a human he's not. He's just sad and leaves. I think it shows the difference between having the soul and not having the soul. Being a vampire in this universe twists and perverses a lot of their human qualities which you can also see with Angel and other vampires that we see as humans.
