Professor Ren (because apparently my name is a school 😜) checking in again. I agree with Suraj. Xander leaving Anya at the wedding is a sad ending, but it’s not bad writing. Xander has had deep seated insecurities and self-loathing that keep getting revisited for a while. Think back to the Season 4 finale “Restless” where we see the driving fears for Xander were his lack of self-worth and his father. His father is presented as a horror movie villain. It perfectly shows everything we need to know about Xander’s fears about his future. Growing up in that kind of environment with a toxic marriage as his emotional framework will likely have encoded very toxic responses to deal with his problems. He needs to work on those first before committing the huge leap of marriage. As recently as Season 5 Episode 3 “The Replacement,” Xander still hasn’t gotten over his lack of self-worth. I don’t think marriage is what he needs to work on himself. I think he needs to work on himself first then get married. Mans has time. He’s only 21 after all.

#sundayrundown you’re right d’hoffryn did refuse to give Anya her powers back in The Wish. I think although he appears to be this kind mentor, he is the male leader of all these women vengeance demons and Anya had lost the powers he’d given her. He wasn’t going to give into her demands and wanted to punish her, he is into vengeance after all. Now she’s at rock bottom he was there to entice her back under his control.
