How does the evolution of language and the change in the meaning of words over time impact spells, rituals, or incantations that use those words?

Hmmm. From one sense I'd say that because intention is the most important bit, pronunciation and spelling don't matter as much, unless you realize you made an error and it takes you out of the trance. Having said that, in a certain way I think it helps. For me personally, if I'm reading some ritual in modern English, it definitely doesn't hit as hard or have the same effect as one in Victorian parlance or Latin or Greek.
