There is a suggestion here that we have surrounded ourselves with a falsehood, but that this falsehood has worked to our favour. This reading doesn't suggest ending the falsehood but instead merely makes you aware of it's existence. However, it's next to impossible to become aware of a falsehood and then morally continue indulging in it.
