[Update: Patreon cancelled the new fee after user feedback. Personally, I have nothing but praise for Patreon since the beginning, as they've always been great to me, in their support, service and everything. Just wanted to point that out. ]

Last week, Patreon sent an email to all its users to let us know about their new fee charge system, which basically will increase the amount you, the backers, are charged each month. The fee will increase 2.9% + $0.35, meaning $1 pledges will increase to around $1.40, and that will become the actual minimum pledge available after the update (December 18th).

You can read the official post , their FAQ or a more simple summary here. Long story short, the purpose of this (as far as I understand) is covering the diverse credit card /paypal fees originated by the several types of payments/support cycles on Patreon, which usually take a big cut out of Creators' monthly payments. The change will transfer this fee to Backers instead.

Regarding this matter, you, the backers, have all the right to lower or cancel your pledge if this change makes you go over budget, so I invite you to revise the information and make a decision before the new fees take place, so you don't get caught off-guard on the next payment cycle.

There has been plenty controversy around this of course, but I think the final decision is up to you. I guess the best solution would be having an option in the settings to allow creators pay the fee themselves instead, but for now, please consider these new fees into your budget. If you have pledged $1 to several creators, it could sum up a big increase in your payment cycle, so be careful.

If you decide to leave because of the increased fees, I will still be thankful for all your support, of course.

And now, finally to sketch some of these requests I owe you! :D
