Right after Japan reopened last year, I knew we had to do something to celebrate. Ideally, I would have loved to invite the entire world to the Abroad in Japan ramen shop, but for spectacular insurance reasons, that was never going to be a good idea.

So when I received a tip-off about a bar in Kyoto that we could rent out, redecorate, and operate under the Abroad in Japan name, I set off to Tokyo with Natsuki and Sharla to turn our dream into a reality.

We have an awesome Patreon Behind-the-Scenes episode coming out in a few days that will detail how it all happened, including the ups and downs, as well as outtakes and bloopers of me humiliating myself.

But for now, a big thank you to all of you who showed up at our bar in Kyoto! As we promoted the event first on the Abroad in Japan Patreon, the majority of our customers were actually Patrons, which was awesome. This was similar to our event in London at Christmas and the Halloween Party in Tokyo.

When it comes to these events, we will always prioritize our Patrons, and it looks like there are a few more events on the horizon later this year, potentially coinciding with the book tour around the world.

I'd be lying if I said this bar wasn't a test run for bigger, more exciting things, and given it honestly couldn't have gone better, it bodes well for those larger plans.

For now though guys, enjoy the video, and keep an eye out for the Patreon-exclusive episode in the next few days, as well as the trailer for Journey Across Japan: Frozen Frontiers!

Book tour around the world? Hope you make some stops in the US :-) just pre-ordered the book and look forward to reading it!

Sounds like there could be a really great opportunity for Chris (and Sharla!) in the future, especially as opening something in Tokyo could help it to become really popular, so genuinely; good luck! 😊 πŸ‘ 🍹🍢🍻🍾πŸ₯‚ Ages ago when there was that AiJ video in a pub or bar, not sure what the title was, I wondered if Chris would open one, I think there's just odd/ difficult labour laws in Japan, though I'm sure that can be overcome now that Chris is established. I think I made a comment more recently when he said he was doing this temporary pub, because I had the absolutely *crazy* idea of opening a British Fish & Chip shop or 'chippie' (I wonder what that is in Katakana?) in Japan (but probably not in Tokyo). Anyway, it would be a genuine travel highlight to visit a place run by Chris (and I'm guessing Natsuki!?) and be able to try beers and ales (and gin etc.) from around Japan, and even maybe some imported from the UK and, or Kent! ;) (though I hope he still makes documentaries!) It would be amazing if on top of that it had that 80s kind-of easy vibe as well, with neon, or like his studio, or even a traditional British pub; "Ye Olde Abandoned Inn".... πŸ˜… πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Hahaha I just thought, can you imagine if Chris started a microbrewery and, or had an AiJ branded beer... > Abroad in a Can! πŸ˜‚

That was such a nice video, really good vibes all along. I would have loved to visit the bar, it seems everyone had a great time. And the ending was hilarious πŸ˜‚

Great video Chris! I was wondering, with all the sake and beer, ever thought about doing something with whisky? Especially considering how popular Japanese whisky is. I think an episode about its fascinating origin in 1925 and resurgence jn the early 2000s would be great! I'm no expert but I know a little if you would like some help πŸ™‚

This video was awesome. Thank you for sharing! πŸŽ‰πŸ™Œ If I may suggest, could you perchance ponder the idea of Vancouver, BC as a book tour stop? It would be epic for your BC fans.πŸ˜‰ 😊 #wishfulthinking
