What a cruel twist of fate, that mere days after posting a video here on Patreon sharing with you guys how the studio was built by the production team, we now get to witness the studio being smashed to pieces by a massive magnitude 7.4 earthquake.

It's been almost 24 hours since the earthquake now and I still feel quite shaken by it all.

Most earthquakes start as a faint rumble and then get worse and worse. This one felt like a bomb had gone off a few floors below and catapulted the entire floor upwards in a very sudden and unpleasant manner. Since then we've had quite a few aftershocks, such as the one recorded at the end of this video.

That impending sense of dread is my least favourite thing. Constantly expecting the next one.

And while the bullet trains are out of action for a weeks and the ramen shop looks like someone had a go at it with a baseball bat, for the most part, the studio lies intact.

It's important to be grateful that things could have been much worse than they were.

But a big thank you for all the kind words guys, here's what the studio looked like today when Natsuki, Sharla and I went inside to inspect it.

(At the very least, we were lucky to have Natsuki in town at the time, as we'd just shot a fun video during the daytime. Out soon!)

Very sad to hear. Glad you & your friends are alright, which is the more important thing. That studio has brought a lot of joy to everyone who's seen it. Such an awesome backdrop. Thankfully, it doesn't look too bad (all except for the leaking water) like you described. Pity about the lucky cat and bowls, but maybe it looks more worse than it is and with any luck, once the mess is cleared it'll just be a matter of running off to daiso to replace some bowls.

I remember the video where you said it was sort of a financial gamble to build that studio :( Hope things turn out okay.

I hope things turn around for you Chris, that must be devastating. Take care .

So glad to hear that you guys are all ok!! That is terrifying!! All the best with the clean up and rebuild.

The ramen shop set will become well and truly authentically Japanese, now that it'll be reassembled following an earthquake! And you've gained your 'Resilience' and 'Stoicism' badges for coming out the other side of of a 7.4, calmly filming down the street talking to us. (You looked pretty calm, even if you were shaking inside.) What a relief that you're all okay, and I hope you get the leak fixed real quick. Big love from us.

Time to call up that construction team and tell them, "Back on the Chain Gang..." Ohh-waaahhh-ahhh-ohhhh-ohhh (Ooh! Aah!)

Commenting this again for visibility- I found where you can replace your broken lucky cat statue for the exact same one. DM me for the link to get one, or tell me where to send it, and I will be happy to gift it to you. 💕

Your resolve to continue doing what you love is being challenged! Don't let this set you back. Take a break and rebuild and we'll all be here when you're ready to return! Stay strong Chris. But well done for turning tragedy into content and trying to make light of the situation >,< b

My heart is so broken to see Chris' passion project physically damaged. I noticed that we can manually change the donation amount for our tier to contribute more

So glad you are ok Chris. Can you give us a rough estimate of what it will cost to rebuild? Happy to pitch in.
