Here it is folks, this week's Patreon exclusive behind the scenes episode for the Sleeper train episode.

Featuring bloopers and outtakes, as well as commentary on why the video was actually hell to shoot behind the scenes due to some bizarre restrictions.

Overall, I'm really happy with how this Abroad in Japan video turned out and it was a lot of fun to travel with Natsuki to the Great Japan Desert and back!

Next week I finally get the keys to the Abroad in Japan studio and we release the Nakagin Capsule Tower video and you can expect behind the scenes videos on both along the way!

ALSO, once you're done watching this BTS episode, go and check out this nightmarish video Ryotaro made me narrate yesterday. You'll probably regret what you'll see (aka. Ryotaro's costume), but I suspect there's some comedy to be had amidst the chaos.

For now guys, enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll see you in the week!

How We Shot the Tottori Sleeper Train Video | Patreon Exclusive

When Natsuki and I ride the 11hour sleeper train to Tottoro, not everything goes according to plan behind the scenes.

Hiro's video was hilarious! Like power Rangers meets top gear. Worth the watch, even with Ryotaro in an armored tank top 🤣

Looking forward to seeing Abroad In A Studio!

I realy enjoyed this video, it was very interesting to see a sleepertrain like this, because here in europe they are not nearly as interesting! Thank you for going through all this effort to put out so good Videos!

Tottori looks so interesting. Adding it to my list of places to visit. Not so sure about sleeper trains though. It’s an experience for sure. Haha

Satomi Arihara

I wanted you to ride a camel😄

Finally, a BTS episode for all the k-pop fans

Those were fun! Two minutes into Ryotaro's video I pestered my teenager to come watch with me so they could snigger at the wonderful trainwreck 😂

Knowing Natsuki is 47 makes me feel a little better about getting older. I hope I can be a fraction as cool at 47

I loved the train - thanks for enduring the late filming schedule!

The train reminds me of the Train level on Goldeneye too, really cool

Awesome a studio?! Chris on the up and up

Where did you get bags for your feet?

Ryotaro's video takes surreal to a whole new level, but it was huge fun. Loved the sand dunes, it would be an ideal setting for a clash of giants between "Evil" Ryotaro and the "Hero" Natsuki.

The "Natsuki of Arabia" idea sounds really good. Have an idea for cast members for this (LOL) outside of you and Natsuki being in it. The cast can be - Chiaki, Joey, Sharla, Connor, Pete (either one), and Ryotaro.

Astor Reinhardt

I was wondering what that blurred out part on the controls for your cabin was...it was a clock! Why did you blur it out?

Leah Webber

I enjoyed the narration on the Ryotaro video perhaps TOO much. Please be the David Attenborough for Japanese culture even more in the future. That was delightful.

No way Natsuki is 47, he looks 30

Tottori Sand Dunes are beautiful and your drones shots are majestic. I was just curious, what the cost price to ride the camel?

Despite the hell it might have been to describe it still looks as if you had lots of fun. I was hoping to visit Japan this year but looks like I will be looking at coming over next year. I am very interested in riding the train. I volunteer at a steam railway in the UK so I do have a passion for rail travel

Curious on why you had to wear something on your shoes?

Arthur

It's kind of a weird situation with JR East and West. My question is, why you just didn't close the windows during the shoot in the evening and shot all of the outside during the day? No one would be able to tell when did you shoot this footage.

I'm guessing the view was worth it because that place is fantastic! It never ceases to amaze me all the very different landscapes Japan has. The train was awesome, too.

Great trip to Tottori, thanks for taking us along.

I love these bts vids. Bonus! even more beautiful shots Thank you. In Natsuki of Arabia Ryotoro must be the annoying sidekick! Let’s toss in a little Aladdin and make him a parrot like Iago.

I am loving these behind the scenes videos. Keep them coming Chris, awesome job!

Gen Xers like Natsuki are always young at heart. It’s what makes us (Gen X) cool. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Natsuki and beer is great combination! If you have some time to kill Tottori has a craft beer place. When we were there, we couldn't find any until we walk by a place announcing "claft beer" XD believe the name is Cafe Source claft beer. Thank you for an other great video! Now when we can't travel at leaset we get to travel through you :)

Would love to do this 😍 I loved the scenery traveling around on the Shinkansen, but this scenery looks stunning and I love the idea of sleeping on a train. Hope to get back over for a trip in 2023 🤞

One thing I've noticed after having watched all three Journey Across Japan series several times now, is one: they are bloody entertaining and delightful, and two, each have a strong and weak point that revolve around one aspect; to quote Chris himself, "I'd love to do _____, but we don't have time." Perhaps something to add to the list of thoughts when making the next one? Prepare time to actually enjoy where you're going, and prevent the feeling of being rushed to quickly enjoy it before having to hurry over to the next place. Love the content and who you are! Can't wait to see the adventures and fun videos you make next!

Loved seeing this romantic train and looking forward to an Indiana Jones/Laurence of Arabia/pirates scene next digging up some treasure. Keep up the great work!

Ok, seeing Ryotaro like that was deeply disturbing. You were absolutely correct; I do regret watching it. LOL

Thinking about it now it might be worth bringing some tape with you if you take the train and cover the speaker. Would provide a bit of relief
