I've heard that the reason for the ending may have been due to production issues. This cour had quite a few of those. That is the reason they had a recap episode in between 21 and 22. So the end of the fight is moved to the beginning of cour 3. I think this cour was probably the hardest to adapt because it is nonstop action and they may not have given themselves enough time to finish it and I'm not sure if they would have been able to delay it if they needed to. There is a PV for the 3rd cour and it is coming in 2024. Unlike the 2nd cour PV this one doesn't specify a month, so it seems like they are giving themselves more time to prevent this from happening again. I also think the Japanese release did a much better job with the ending. After the episode ends, they go into a special ending and then they show the PV trailer. After that, Kon's segment is shown. The ending didn't feel as jarring to me in that version thanks to the special ending and PV trailer unlike the foreign release version where they have the normal ending song and then Kon. You can find the PV trailer on YouTube. It's not that long and isn't a normal trailer, but it's still something.
