She-Ra and the Princesses of Power would be my request for western animation. It's a 52-episode series from DreamWorks. The show has fantastic character writing, lots of humor, and surprisingly satisfying action sequences. Oh, and no prior knowledge of He-Man or She-Ra is necessary to enjoy this masterpiece.

This is a bit late,but I wanted to put the recommendation out there for the future. I think you guys would really enjoy Bungo Stray Dogs, based on your reactions from other anime. Definitely worth watching an opening to see if it's something you may be interested in.
