This was fucked up, but the real question, is he really out of the hole?

Your eyes and expressions while that whole 'the best you can expect from love speech' went on and on, stayed with you well after it was on to something else. It looked like that really resonated.

Robert

I do believe Morty is out of the Hole, because of two reasons. At the End Rick put Mortys picture on the Wall. I doubt the hole would do that. What reason would there be. At the beginning the Hole version of Rick put a picture of both of them on the Wall to convince Morty that he was out of the Hole. But at the End Morty wasn't there to see it. Also kind of endearing to see Rick respect Morty by putting his picture on the Wall., and we also learned that Rick has a Picture of Morty in his wallet. The second reason is, Morty and Rick always left the Hole together by "swimming" out of the darkness. But at the End it was just Morty and the Hole was just a regular Hole.

Great reaction as always. Good episode but odd for the season finale. "What is in your hole?" hey, you said it even if you didn't mean to. :p

I had to track down that speech: "You’re dumb. That’s why you’re not scared to be happy. The smarter you are, the more you know. Happiness is a trap. It can’t last forever. Let’s say you meet the love of your life, well, it’s still gonna end. It’s inevitable, whether by the slow pull of a disease, or the shock of loose footing on a hiking trail, whether it be the corrosion of two personalities that reshape each other until they’re incompatible, or maybe the old stranger in a bar who says the things that need to be said, to that person, that night. The point is, happiness always ends. Best case scenario, think about this. Best case is that you die at the same time. Yikes." There is no part of that that can be argued with.

Robert

Can absolutely be argued with. Your life time is finite either way. And you are alive either way. Which means the only two options you have is to feel happy, or to feel something else. With the third option being death. (Which we learned in this Shows reality is not even the end anyway..since there is multiple forms of afterlife). Happiness doesn't last, but you are alive either way, so why not spend the limited time you have being as happy as you can be, rather than being miserable. Otherwise you might as well just kill yourself and get it over with. Which in this world wouldn't even help because then you go to the afterlife where you are either happy or not, as before. I would chose Happy over not happy any day. Second argument is the "Movie" Theory. Happiness eternal is pointless. Just like a movie that never ends is pointless. If you are forced to watch it forever even a form of eternal torture. Because at some point its not happiness but rather just the status quo. It fades into nothingness just like a movie that never ends, is not a story anymore. But if we go from one movie to another, we can enjoy them, because they end. And then we go on to enjoy a different story. Happiness is not supposed to last forever, its supposed to be consumed, like a meal or a movie. It has to end, or it means nothing. Would you rather eat trash food than good food because the good food doesn't last forever? Well neither does the bad food. So why not try to make it taste good every time you eat. Or be happy when ever you got the chance to. Just like life has to end at some point, or it means nothing. A life where you are happy always forever, is a life without happiness because there is no contrast to compare this feeling to. You can only feel happy, because you know what it feels like not to be happy. You can only taste vanilla, because not everything tastes like vanilla. If everything has the same taste, nothing tastes like anything. And if you are happy all the time happiness doesn't mean anything.
