Aw man. I'd love to see your reactions to Vox Machina but I love just as much if not more that you're watching it. Critical Role is one of those shows I in theory would like to get into but with hundreds of multi-hour episodes to catch up it seems like the daunting ordeal. Another good DnD campaign show is Harmonquest. It's pretty much Dan Harmon (the creator of Community) and a few of his friends playing a campaign in front of a studio audience but it's also animated. Like they'll start each episode off live action in front of the studio audience then when they start the session it's an animated show. The show also features numerous actors and comedians filling in for various guest characters that pop up during the campaign. It's also only 30 episodes that are 20ish minutes each.

Subtext for the drugs play: At the beginning of the first season, Harmon and the writers attempted to write Pierce as a specific character, but Chevy Chase can be difficult to work with. He was disruptive and wanted to do his own thing instead of what was written. Eventually, they gave up and started writing the character to better please Chevy, but also to make Pierce act the way Chevy would act behind the scenes. The way Pierce takes over Annie’s play reflects the way Chevy would treat his co-workers on the show. Pierce’s character arc in the second season is largely about how the writers felt about Chevy. Also, you might like to check out this playlist on Youtube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVBE0UFchtTH2Ekc50_PEHnjvva1RlT22 Dan Harmon used to have a podcast called Harmontown. Most episodes included a segment where he plays DnD with his friends in front of an audience. The YT playlist is just the DnD parts in sequence. (It’s only halfway an attempt at DnD, and halfway goofing around.)
