I think Henry’s characterization of List as having rigid obsessive-compulsive thinking is correct, but what List likely had was Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) as opposed to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is an anxiety disorder. People who have it typically know there is something amiss with the way they are using compulsions to handle anxiety, and it can be managed with treatment. When someone has OCPD, their rigid thinking and compulsive behaviour pervades their entire personality and they don’t realize that the way they think is not the way everyone thinks (lack of insight).
