Lion King wasn't creative in a lot of respects, actually. They stole whole scenes shot for shot from Osamu Tezukas Jungle Emperor, including the big one with Mufasa in the clouds. Good set pieces and phenomenal music, but it was still such a shame to learn that Disney stole most of the actual story. On the other hand, the original, which was known in the West as Kimba the White Lion, was a little too weird. Kimba gets spanked by a Frenchman in Paris in one episode. Did I mention it was from Japan? I should have led with that.
