Hail Satan!

Can anyone, like a theologian or something, explain the difference between Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac and that of Jesus? Cuz from where I'm sitting they sound like suspiciously similar stories...

Oh, let me! I'm not a theologian but I'm one of the two, maybe three Christians who listen to the podcast so I'm happy to give it a shot. The key difference is that Abraham of course doesn't sacrifice Isaac, he is kept from doing this by an angel of God. In other words, God does not demand Abraham sacrifice his son to him; but, in the Gospels there is a curious inversion of this where God DOES sacrifice his own son. How this has sometimes been read is that God reveals here the extent to which he is willing to sacrifice himself for us, while not demanding similar sacrifice in return. Another rather interesting suggestion about the story of Isaac is that it may have been written to mark the movement away from human sacrifice. Biblical Israel often differentiates itself from its neighbours by claiming that they sacrifice their children to their gods, while Israel didn't make such sacrifices. Whether or not child sacrifice actually was as prevalent as the Bible implies is up to debate (that it was exaggerated seems likely), but the point here is that for the Israelites, the idea of human sacrifice to the divine was abhorrent. That probably doesn't answer your question very well, but hopefully that shed a little light on it

Actually this does a much better job of explaining it than I can: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWaiJmjbGEQ" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWaiJmjbGEQ</a>

I definetly prefer having Marcus read the bible to me as opposed to me having to read it again.
