Hey guys!

Here's the latest Inner Circle release for Pure Onyx!

With this release we take the first major steps toward implementing the actual gameplay loop!  We've implemented the core mission structure and first iteration of the world map scene, and Onyx can now travel between the test missions during the same session.  For a look at what to expect from this as we continue to flesh it out, check out the world map mock-up trailer I made a while back!  We've also added the extra lives mechanic for Onyx, meaning she will now respawn as long as she has lives remaining.  

Beyond that, we've added a number of fixes and some additions to the H system, such as body liquid build-up for FemCop, even more improvements to the Chain Splicer H scene animations, and genitals details for Onyx as we move closer toward adding cinematic mode.

Changelog

  • Added first iteration of World Map scene
  • Added barebones implementation of "The Hub" to the world map (where Onyx can shop/repair/access stash)
  • Added 'End Mission' option to in-stage menu.  Returns the player to the World Map and retains character progress (only for that session)
  • Added 'World Map' option to Game Over menu
  • Disabled stash from in-stage menu
  • New loading screen now supports 3:2 aspect ratio
  • Added extra lives mechanic for Onyx.  Onyx will respawn as long as she has lives remaining.
  • Player character flicker FX now indicates i-frames (invincibility).  Added effect after respawning.
  • Added more improved versions of Chain Splicer H scene anims.
  • Improved speed and curves of Chain Splicer H scene anims -- the scene has much more energy now.
  • Improved performance during Chain Splicer H scenes (added new low poly chain rigs)
  • Femcop now has liquid build-up FX
  • Improved rigging for liquid on Onyx
  • Improved genitals textures for Onyx
  • Added a system that allows for text on characters (Chain Splicer's jacket kanji for example) to display in the correct direction even when character graphics are mirrored. 
  • Squishy/looping H Scene sounds from last month's update now use the proper audio mixer group
  • Loading screen now shows proper location being loaded into


Known Issues

Here are the newest/most relevant known issues.

  • Still have a few fixes/improvements to make on the Chain Splicer H scene intro.
  • The Chain Splicer currently has no unique H attack animation.  His windup animation will receive new FX soon to distinguish between an H attack and regular attack.
  • Charger's hitbox shifts slightly after he charges.  If he charges repeatedly this shift can add up to be significant.  It will soon correct itself however.
  • Chain Splicer can immediately hit Onyx after an H scene if he had wound up to attack before the H scene began.
  • Kanji on the Chain Splicer's jacket is backwards when he faces left (will be fixed in next update).
  • Street Lord Wraxe can dash backwards if he begins his dash at the far right side of the map.
  • Enemies can appear floating above the shop characters after an H scene, but should fix themselves quickly.
  • Liquid won't show on Onyx during the Thug's solo H scene.  This will be fixed soon.
  • The liquid spurt FX on one of the Thug's H scene finishers sometimes doesn't play.  We're aware of the cause and seeing if it pops up anywhere else before fixing it.
  • Spamming attack/jump while Onyx is knocked down can sometimes produce a glitchy animation just before she gets back up, which can affect her next combo.
  • Street Lord Wraxe's hitbox is not good, especially during his attack animations (Onyx's hits will usually miss when it looks like they should land).  He's the first enemy to move a lot from his origin during animations, and this separates him from his collider.
  • Infinite jabs are way overpowered against bosses right now.  Jab spam will be changed to a standing combo soon-ish (among other combat improvements).
  • Street Lord Wraxe sometimes blocks the view of H scenes with his big fat wraxe when he's a bystander.

Console Commands

The game isn't balanced that great yet, so some people have asked if there are ways to bypass bosses or get some help.  You can use console commands for this while the game is still rough around the edges. Press the  ` (backtick/tilde) key to open the console.  Type any of the commands below and press enter.  Press ` again to close the console.

  • godmode on/off - Makes Onyx indestructible.
  • onepunchmode on/off - Gives Onyx the ability to kill anything with one attack.
  • setwave # - Sets the enemy wave to the number specified.  Changes will not be reflected in enemies until the current wave is wiped out.  If you want to fight Street Lord Wraxe, who spawns on Wave 20, then set the wave to 19 and wipe out the remaining enemies.
  • setgamespeed # - Multiplies the game speed by the number specified.

Items no longer seem to drop when playing, or there is a glitch somewhere that stops them from dropping, i played through 3 times burning all my lives without getting items, and on the 4th i finally had an item drop

first run after downloading, i could not get drops despite hitting wave 32.

i like the Lives mechanic. how can Onyx gain more lives?

Loving the new world map! The continuous semen FX during animations might just be a little much though...

Only recently became a patron, but already I am blown away by what you are creating. I always loved beat'em'ups from way back when gaming was an arcade thing. And this is by far the best ever. The sex animations are intense and so detailed and awesome to spice up the fun gameplay just love it all. Keep it up, I am hooked.

Thanks for reporting this! AltairPL found the issue and fixed it for the next release. Apparently if you access The Hub it will cause enemies to stop dropping loot.

Thug/Runt: H-scene - Struggle phase: Runt model swells and shrinks, both as participant and bystander. --Will the Runt be able to initiate their own h-scene aside from being an accessory to the Thug h-scene? --Any update on the Charger h-scene, if there is one? --Apart from what's already been established so far, are you able to clue us in to how many enemies there will be in total, and of them how many will have h-scenes? --Aside from the Shop gear that helps increase stats, will there be other components of Onyx's physique or skill tree that players can customize and advance in an RPG-style of gameplay? What is your team's final vision for how the game will look or play like in the end - do you plan on it being what currently seems like a wave-based side scrolling fighting platform or is this a smaller part of the overall game itself? Asking as I'm genuinely curious. Thanks for the work on the development! Looking forward to more features, gameplay, and improvements. --Is the Discord accessible? I can't seem to find it.

Sorry for the very late response -- I missed this comment before D: D: D: - The swell/shrink thing is an issue with the animation and will eventually get fixed :D - The runt will get his own H scene! - No update on a Charger H scene yet D: - We're looking at something like 45-50 enemies total including bosses - Onyx will have a skill progression system but we haven't focused too much on the details of it yet. I'm a fan of game-ifying as much as possible, so expect features to be unlocked by progression as well. The game will be much bigger than just the wave based minigames we currently have in place! - Discord is available for the $10 tier -- you can set up access to it via Patreon :D.
