Hey everyone!

This latest Pure Onyx release is a much more polished version of the Inner Circle test release from earlier this month.

I'm very pleased with both the amount that we've accomplished since last month, as well as how quickly our new team members are coming along.  Expect a progress update in a few days -- we have more work to show off, and I'll give some details on what to expect in next month's release!

TEST RELEASE DOWNLOAD

Below I've listed the changes since the release two weeks ago (items marked with **), as well as the changes from that release.

Change Log

  • ** Added face animations and secondary motion (hair, jacket, swingy n' jiggly bits) to remaining Street Lord Wraxe H scene animations.
  • ** Street Lord Wraxe's second H scene's intro is no longer choppy.
  • ** Added a bevy of new sound FX to Street Lord Wraxe's H scenes.
  • ** Made many clipping and pose fixes to the H scene animations.
  • ** Improved the look of Onyx's mouth during H scenes.
  • ** Reverted to old zoom/dash keyboard controls (if you played the Jan 7 release, you'll need to reset controls to default in Options for this to take effect)
  • ** Fixed animation crossfade times for H scenes.  Was previously causing sync issues.
  • ** Enabled a second liquid build-up zone on Onyx (so she can get goopier).
  • ** Added liquid build-up for Street Lord Wraxe H scenes (his finishers will now add it to Onyx's crotch or legs depending on the scene)
  • ** Liquid strands between Onyx's legs hide properly now during animations where they would look bad.
  • ** Stage menu navbar text is now anti-aliased / no longer jaggy
  • ** WIP item card window (shows detailed stats) has been added to the inventory menu.
  • ** WIP equipment comparison function has been added to the inventory menu.
  • ** Found and fixed an issue where the animated FX on the stage menu would speed up to insane values if the menu was left open a long time.
  • Added two H scenes for Street Lord Wraxe.  They are currently performed randomly (one "lift" scene and one standing-from-behind scene)
  • Added an H grab skill for Street Lord Wraxe
  • Improved Onyx's skin shader / materials
  • Added first iteration of abdomen bulge to Onyx's rig
  • Added Options screen to main menu and pause menu
  • Added volume options
  • Added keyboard and controller remapping options
  • Added localization/language setting, and Polish as a new language
  • Added game resolution settings to Options
  • Added new pause/shop menu design + first iteration of UI animations
  • Pause menu now properly shows Onyx's major location, with matching background artwork.
  • Fixed H scene liquid color (no more glowing jelly)
  • Made a major fix to the liquid system that prevented liquid models on Onyx from appearing on new animations
  • Split post-H scene liquid meshes so that strands between Onyx's legs don't clip/distort poorly on extreme poses/animations
  • Can no longer cheese Splicer Thugs by making them think they can hit Onyx when they can't.
  • Issue skipping H scene segments from certain loop cycles fixed.
  • Characters no longer freeze during H scene fadeouts.

H System Framework Improvements

  • Enemies can now have multiple H scenes
  • Support for multi-teaming added (our first double-team scene may be as early as February)
  • Struggle animations are now scenes, meaning they can have multiple animations / progression just like H scenes.
  • Added support for multi-teaming struggle scenes.
  • Onyx can now have multiple active H rigs.  This means we can use an old rig where necessary to maintain compatibility for existing scenes.
  • Updated the post-H scene liquid system to allow for optional liquid meshes per animation

Known Issues

Here are the newest/most relevant known issues.

  • Changing resolution in-game will temporarily break the left-side nav menu.  Closing/reopening the menu will fix it (Hit Escape or cancel to close the menu).
  • Control icons may appear as Xbox icons for PlayStation controller users (let us know if you experience this).  We think it's related to the DS4 Windows third party app.
  • It's possible to bug out an H scene by pressing jump just as Onyx is grabbed, or exactly when she breaks free from grapple.  It will skip the H scene entirely and Onyx will be stuck in T pose until she's hit.  It can also affect the subsequent grapple scene by displaying Onyx in a random(?) pose.
  • Enemies can appear floating above the shop characters after an H scene, but should fix themselves quickly.
  • Liquid won't show on Onyx during the Thug's H scenes.  This will be fixed in next month's release.
  • The liquid spurt FX on one of the Thug's H scene finishers sometimes doesn't play.  We're aware of the cause and seeing if it pops up anywhere else before fixing it.
  • Street Lord Wraxe's standing-from-behind H scene should actually only occur when Onyx is on the ground -- we just haven't had time to add this mechanic yet.
  • Spamming attack/jump while Onyx is knocked down can sometimes produce a glitchy animation just before she gets back up, which can affect her next combo.
  • Street Lord Wraxe's hitbox is not good, especially during his attack animations (Onyx's hits will usually miss when it looks like they should land).  He's the first enemy to move a lot from his origin during animations, and this separates him from his collider.
  • Street Lord Wraxe may become stuck while walking.  He can be knocked out of it however.
  • Due to Wraxe's large size, Runts bumping into him may push him upwards since they can get underneath his collider.
  • Infinite jabs are way overpowered against bosses right now.  Jab spam will be changed to a standing combo soon-ish (among other combat improvements).
  • Splicer Runts and Thugs may float if Onyx knocks them back a lot while they are defending or de-aggro'd.  They may also airwalk when knocked down.
  • Charger doesn't move out of the way when he's a bystander during an H scene.  He just kinda goes to sleep right in the middle of it all x_x.  And Street Lord Wraxe sometimes blocks the view of the H scene with his big fat wraxe.

Yay!!!!!

Rolldye

oh wow... gorgeous

My only comment is about the Zoom in and out function. Just to add the ability to control the Camera up and down cuz you zoom in at a specific angle or part and it prevents me from seeing other parts of the screen. Unless there is that function and I'm not clear on how to use it.

Would be nice to get voice for Onyx in H-scenes... Otherwise, looking good :)

Solid work guys, loving the pace. I'll be greedy and say I can't wait for femcop to enter the arena.

Is the "cinematic mode" for H scenes mentioned in the update of February 28th still planned? Or can you already activate it manually in game? Really liked the animations you showed back then.

Fading liquid over time?

Zazo

The game runs extremely slow at constant 29fps. due to vsync I believe. Know any way to fix this? At some points it speeds back up but only for a second or two back to 60.

eromancer

You can cycle through the possible Vsync modes with the F2 key (they vary depending on the GFX card/system). Also what are your system specs? A 2GB discrete graphics card or higher is pretty much necessary to run the game decently.

eromancer

We're still planning on doing it ^-^. It hasn't been implemented yet though.

Zazo

I have a nvidia 1060 3gb with core 5I 3.3ghz. When I turned off vsync it pretty much started to run 116fps. there were drops here and there probably due to optimization and that is pobably what is causing vsync to try and maintain constant 20fps. anyway....it runs fine now. problem solved.

Is there any way I can play this on my Tablet?

Netharius

there is still a small bit of lag on the grab anim for the big guy

eromancer

At the moment it'd perform pretty poorly. Additional performance options and optimization may help, but it's likely the game will require a minimum 2 GB discrete graphics card to run well.

Zebra27

Love this update, will there an example of the story placed into any build to show how things will play out, like a small demo level of the game loop?

How do I get to Lord Wraxe? I only get as far as the Charger and it doesn't do H scenes yet as far as I can tell.

eromancer

You can skip to him by pressing ` (~ tilde key) on keyboard to open console and typing "setwave 19" without quotes. This places the game at the wave before Wraxe spawns.

Would it be possible to have a different place to download besides mega. Like dropbox or google drive. The data limits on mega are outdated and horrible.

Thank you! Been a while since I last checked back. I was excited to see that more H scenes have been added and wanted to check it out.

PhaineOfCatz

Similar boat, computer isn't the latest and greatest, but can play most games fine. With vsync on I was averaging 30fps with drop outs down below 10 fps on the regular while running at the lowest resolution (320 by something). I actually thought all of your animations were just incredibly slow at first, because it also slowed down the rate at which it took input(user input may be tied to frames, that's pretty common in unity and isn't an issue unless something like this comes up). Vsync off it runs around 80 solid and I didn't seem to have any other issues. Maybe there's a vsync issue with my machine, but I've never run into anything this extreme before on it.

For H scenes, we plan on adding a focal point for specific scenes, so that it tracks the action in the scene better. We may also add something like you're suggesting ^-^.
