Hey everyone,

Sorry to bug you over this!

A huge number of patrons have had their pledges declined this month, and I wanted to give a PSA since Patreon hasn't done a great job of doing so. This is a site-wide event, and not specific to our project.

Earlier today Patreon apparently nuked its own user base by moving all(?) their recurring transactions to an overseas bank in the UK. This action triggered a ton of fraudulent activity warnings, and a lot of patrons had their credit cards locked. What's worse is that they continually retried failed transactions, and some people just got hammered with these fraud warnings.

If this is affecting you, the only options appear to be to call your bank / card company and let them know the Patreon charge isn't fraudulent, or to change your payment method.

To me the fact that advance warning wasn't given is ridiculous. Beyond that, I can't fathom how they didn't run a test batch before moving millions of dollars in recurring transactions overseas. The ripple effects of this are murky, but as I understand it most of the people who need to see this message can't because of the likelihood that their pledges were removed due to "fraudulent activity".

I had no control over this, and I'm really displeased over how it was handled.

I hope everything is going to work out well and most people will succeed in re-pledging. I personally didn't have a problem, probably because I'm in UK, myself. But Patreon really dropped the ball, here. Lately it's been one disaster after another. I feel for you.

One thing I've found that's worked is to route everything though PayPal. My pledges seem to have gone through without an issue.

It seems that content creators are required, again and again, to appologise to their patrons for something that Patreon did.

Well that explains that. I was so confused as to why my patreon charges were being blocked this month. Thank you very much for clearing this up! I hope the best for you and the team and will continue to support this project no matter where I have to go to give you the money.

Miragian

It's been strongly suggested everyone switch to PayPal to avoid this in the future.

Jacob Larson

I've tried PayPal multiple times and still nothing. Any suggestions?

This coming from a guy that didn't bother to tell us the development of his project could go years without a playable update before we actually paid into it? Yeah, not getting an advance warning isn't ideal for anybody, is it?

Anonymous

Not to be BS or anything. But u have a good point <.>

Carter Parks

Excuse you both, but kindly GO FUCK YOURSELVES. The team has LIVES outside of this damn game. There's plenty of other shit on the internet to keep you idiots occupied until this next update comes out. So instead of bitching, why don't you just shut up and wait patiently like a couple of decent people.

It's been nearly 2 years since the last playable update, most people wouldn't have waited 1 year before saying anything (some of the other projects I've looked at get abusive comments daily, mine at least stayed civil); I not only left a message at 1 year (which unsurprisingly got no response), I also wrote a review to my personal site (which also details the lack of updates for over a year at the time it was written). This game looks like an abandoned project to the public, given the top public post on the home page states, "The most recent major release of Malise and the Machine was on October 30, 2016." If the fact that the funding for this game dropped from around $14,000 per month to the $6,000 range it's currently in isn't an indication that something is wrong, somebody needs a reality check. I at least kept my response civil (perhaps blunt, but still civil & non-abusive), what's your excuse Carter?

This coming from someone with $0 support? People that want to complain will find a reason to-- something you've displayed in the past WonderGamer, and now you're simply trying to poison the well. If we find it's acceptable to let support dwindle in the short term to create a better final product then that's our prerogative. The fact that we're not promoting publicly is intentional. As you said, we haven't had a major update in a long time, and therefore why should we be promoting publicly? For people like you, that want to flamebait? It's worth noting there's a progress update every week, and it's not hard to see that from the front page.

I donated $20 on my first pledge on 12/1/2016 to secure a copy of the "retail" copy according to your post where it was stated that anybody who had contributed a minimum of $20 throughout the development of the project would be guaranteed a copy of the game when it was completed (screenshot of email at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KCkj6wpkmLBmtRdB9aQgcBIuvjvC9R-3 , I can order a back-statement from my bank to get the authorization code on the charge). On approximately 1/29/2017, I pledged an additional $3 & requested it be refunded because there was not a playable update since the release on 10/30/2016 (under the misunderstanding that your statement saying there "has" been updates since then, didn't necessarily mean PLAYABLE updates). I have contributed $20 towards the project (enough to secure a copy of the game when completed according to your own statement at https://www.patreon.com/posts/clarification-on-7007038 ) & have been waiting for a public update stating there has been a playable update before I paid again. If you are stating that I have not contributed anything, then you've only proven that your statement that if a subscription (call it what you will, a monthly pledge is still a subscription) were to be stopped, it would not opt you out of the copy of the game upon it's completion, was in fact false. I have kept records because what is being shown in your response is what I was expecting when we had this discussion in a period of 2 months between December 2016 & January 2017. As with the logs before, I am keeping logs here as well just in case I need to update that review with further information (with what your statement of saying I haven't paid anything into the game, this seems definite in the near future, to show that you backed out of your original agreement, unless I see something that shows it is followed through with). So far, I have not published anything stating the game is a scam or started a boycott against it, only that currently it is questionable as to whether the development is still underway or if the project will ever be completed. The main point the review points out (outside of positive points regarding graphics, mechanics, battle system & named types of hentai-like content that may have gained interest to those interested in that content...were playable updates being regularly released, that is) is the lack of updates that gives patrons the ability to actually experience what they are paying for. I've been checking back on this project off & on for close to 2 years & still have not seen an update on the latest version of the game, so I haven't made another contribution to it yet & under your own statement in your last response, which is effectively negating what I have paid into it thus far, I may not be paying into it further, which instead is going to result in a review of the "developer" (as previously stated) & a boycott being published (basically the same situation that happened with Bandai/Namco after retaliating to a mostly negative review of Dragon Ball XenoVerse, the expected reason they shut down their public forums), as well as making a number of fraud reports to have this project investigated to see if there is any validity to it. The next move is yours, give me a reason to believe there is still some hope for this project, don't make me have to blow the horn that this project is in fact a scam & get authorities involved. I'll be waiting for your response before I take further action on this matter (I won't wait forever however, I'll be making another update to the review at the 2 year mark from the last version if I can't see this being resolved; additional payments will not be made unless I can determine that the money I have already put into it was not negated/stolen, which your last statement currently claims is the case).

as long as updates are flowing and i have the money i see no problem here. Is a major update long over do yes but the last time i had access to the feed they where making good head way. A game just doesn't appear over night it takes time.

Anonymous

I am a little curious. Is there an estimate for the next playable demo?

Anonymous

I definitely love the style of this game.

Anonymous

Ok ;-)

Try an estimate for the next playable version for patrons, the last version is over 2 years old...
