Battle Test Release 2 is finished up and you can download it below!

Changes since last Battle Test Release:

  • Added Neon :D
  • Re-worked Malise’s poses (some more than others).
  • All portraits have been rendered with upgraded lighting / proper perspective, and for applicable poses characters will now look at the player/camera instead of straight ahead.
  • Malise will now use both guns when attacking.
  • Japanese language will now be available (can be toggled in the main menu).  If you speak Japanese please let us know how we did!
  • Added some additional checks to prevent invalid actions from being performed, including revival/healing using First Aid Kit item just after player character was killed.
  • Improved game database pre-processing to decrease game play-test start time and disk writes.
  • Improved handling of and partially implemented non-linear movement for battle UI elements such as indicator and battle camera animations.
  • Re-coded and optimized player character's level/experience indicators to allow for JP localization, and made some alignment fixes for 16:9 compatibility on the battle results and loot screens

Known issues:

  • One feature needed by full concurrency mode was never implemented and it's causing problems with some actions.  The only action affected by it this in current build is Malise's Dual Fire skill.  In certain conditions, fewer than the intended four shots may be performed, including total action failure.
  • Sometimes portraits of surviving player characters are not reverted to idle pose on the battle results screen
  • Position of player character effect and result pop-ups require adjusting (moving closer to the center of the screen)
  • In full concurrency mode, various pose-affecting actions may take place at the same time, but only one pose may be displayed at any given time - initial prioritizing was performed, but may require some additional tweaking.
  • Malise's holster straps are clipping in some spots and her guns are missing from the holsters in some poses.  The latter part was intentional since some rigging fixes are required to get them to fit properly when Malise's legs are bent.
  • Neon's barrier extends into the battlefield a little too much now that there's more perspective in the portraits.  It's also really opaque at the moment until we add HDR processing.
  •  If Neon kills an enemy while Malise has Dual Fire queued, Malise will sometimes shoot the corpse because she's apparently into some weird stuff
  • 'Action Failed' appears somewhat excessively in non-concurrent mode -- this is intended for debugging.

Here is, at the very least, what we're aiming for with Battle Test Release 3, which we plan to make available early for the Inner Circle:

  • Malise's exposed portraits (probably no armor damage yet -- at least for Malise)
  • Updated Malise figure (various shape/face and facial expression/rigging improvements and fixes, including those holsters)
  • HDR processing (bloom, tone mapping)
  • Whatever fixes APL has planned

I'm hoping to have this ready at the beginning of March.

Works fine for me, no problems so far! Malise new poses look great and the gunfire feels fluid! the only little disappointed is the change of Neons Face (lipstick, eyeliner) but yeah thats just me :D

Anonymous

No problems here. New art looks great although there was defnitely something I liked about the old style. Will we see any releases with h-content in March?

Dee

You know, I was kind of a patron because I won't keep up with the updates otherwise, and I didn't really care about whatever updates you wanted to do to the art to make it better, was just willing to ride it out, but I must say that the new art really does look fantastic and I'm very impressed by it. Great job guys.

Anonymous

Everything goes smoothly. Hope new version coming soon. Thanks for your hard work.

Fredinator

I like it very much. The graphics are very nice. One thing I like to add though is could you make neons butt crack more visible like for malise? It's covered by the armor too much sadly :(

Anonymous

went several rounds, some with recover, some without, everything looks, feels, and works perfectly, absolutely love the artwork and new style, keep it up!

CCman

Yes, I have made tests with whatever option is in there, from skills to game speed and works like a charm! :)

Spencer

It works that's all I can say with certainty I know this is for us to try and break to see bugs and stuff but I really don't know what I should be looking for or trying to break

Anonymous

One bug I did encounter was an enemy attacking when he was in his death animation. My "During Action" setting was set to 100%. Malise killed the enemy but during the shots the enemy's turn bar ticked over and he attacked while falling over dying. The attack missed. Launching the game fullscreen through RPG Maker's F1 menu still breaks the resolution, zooming the entire view in.

AltairPL

You don't really have to hunt for bugs... just play the game, hopefully enjoy it, and let us know if something goes wrong ;).

AltairPL

I think it's related to one of the posted known issues, but it's good to know it may cause something like that as well, so thanks. There's nothing we can do about the fullscreen issue though, sorry.

holy crap that music is awesome and so is the game play :D

Anonymous

The new lighting doesn't look that good imo. The characters looked perfect on the last Battle Test. For me at least this seems like extra work for a somewhat arguably worse result. I also encountered this bug whereas the music would continue playing long after I exit the game. Other than that everything else looks really smooth and works great! Ps: After a throughout look at the styles I realize the best look would probably be the middle ground between this battle test and the last one. The shadow value on the new one is a little too dark but the last Battle test needs just a tad of polishing.

I gotta say, this looks great !!! You guys sure put a lot of effort in background, maps and other details. I have few questions i hope you can answer, one of which i asked previously is what happened to Neon's blue lipstick, i really liked it. The other one is, will the game have gallery mode when its finished? I know its very early to ask for such an option, but do you have that in mind as well?

AltairPL

Gonna leave explanation about lipstick to Ero, since I liked blue one as well. As for gallery, yeah, there should be one... we actually have a prototype working and we use it for various debug purposes, like checking if all portraits are working and stuff. But it is too clunky and not really user friendly yet.

Esimio

when I go full screen I do not see the whole image. I do not see the side parts

AltairPL

RPG Maker full-screen doesn't work well with wide-screen, but we learned about just recently, and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it... at least in RPG Maker. You can always use F5 to toggle scripted full-screen, but its quality isn't the best. Sorry for that.

Carter Parks

Darn...well, I have no problem re-pledging for a spell in march... Not like I'll be strapped for cash at all...(March is gonna be busy as FUCK at my workplace.)

Jacob Larson

I tried downloading it and it would not work at all. The other demos worked fine but for some reason this doesn't. Do you need something other than the rpg maker to make it work? Ill download and get a what app do I want to use to open it such as internet explorer, or search for an app in the store but nothing comes up for it at all. I do get a window that pops up for a brief second like it's trying to work but then quickly goes away. Any ADVICE?

Jacob Larson

Sorry for the all capital advice I hit the wrong button. Oops.

AltairPL

There is nothing in this build that would require additional steps in comparison to previous releases, so I'm kinda stumped. Can you verify that previous Battle Test Release works now?

Jacob Larson

Actually this is the first time that i had tried downloading a battle test release. I dont

Jacob Larson

I don't know where to find the older ones, but as far as the regular demos go all six or seven of them they have all worked great!

AltairPL

You can find link to previous Battle Test in following post: <a href="https://www.patreon.com/posts/v0-056-battle-16391806">https://www.patreon.com/posts/v0-056-battle-16391806</a> . In the same post you will find download link to RPG Maker VX Ace Runtime Package which is the only extra thing required. I would like you to get me as much info as possible. I'll make numbered list of all things to check for easier reference: 1. I you haven't did this after having problems with this Battle Test Release, check if older releases work... previous battle test or game releases - this will determine whether the problem is specific for this build or maybe something on your system is blocking all MATM or even RPG Maker VX Ace games; 2. I really don't understand the part of your initial comment about Internet Explorer and store... could you elaborate? 3. How does the window that opens for a second looks like, including what's its title? 4. Check if there is a "!Error.log" and/or "!Output.log" files in the System sub-folder; 5. This occurred to me just now... were you able to decompress downloaded file? All game builds are using zip format, and both Test Battle Builds are using 7z format. Hopefully one of those will help, and if not another series of questions will follow.

Jacob Larson

The game builds using the zip format work just fine, I'm able to download and open them then just drag to the desktop for quick access. I think it the 7z format that is the issue. Once the battle test is downloaded i can then just click on open at which point that window that I mentioned pops up for just a brief second and there is no title on it at all. The internet explorer matter happens when I choose open with other app since the regular way doesn't work. Anyway to try to open it I get options such as using internet explorer, windows media player, even notebook or search the app store for an app to open 7z type files i believe. But when i choose that search results come up with nothing. I tried downloading that older version and just keep getting the same result. I may just be s o l when it comes to the battle test.

AltairPL

I already asked Ero to repack both Battle Tests to zip format and add a link to both posts, but I think he's out now, so no idea when he'll do this and when you'll be able to re-download. Or you can download and install 7-zip (<a href="http://7-zip.org/)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://7-zip.org/)</a> - it's pretty popular format nowadays and the app is completely free, so I think it's worth installing either way. Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience.

Jacob Larson

No worries, i really appreciate your help and patience. I look forward to the battle tests in zip format. The game builds have been pretty awesome! You guys are doing some incredible work. I thank you again!

eromancer

Here it is in zip format :D <a href="https://mega.nz/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://mega.nz/</a>#!fEE3GZrb!VlpGVNH1Xbd7qhYUk349Zij5t26sBYboPfsefPBHvnY

I also added the link to the post above since Patreon seems to want to break links in the comments =/

The tunes are really kickin, just left the game open for a while and alt+tabbed out

Jacob Larson

Just a quick shoutout to AltairPL and eromancer for your help and putting the battle test in zip. It worked great! Thank you!

AltairPL

No problem, happy to hear we were able to help you out... have fun :D

eromancer

This won't be the last one :D but was much needed testing/practice for both Uber and I to verify what will be needed for our lighting setup. Would take forever to do this for every scene. Instead we are making a lighting rig where we can automate renders with each light source by itself then mix them in post using HDR workflow.

eromancer

Oi, I'm 50/50 on the lipstick thing, assuming we can actually get it to look good. So far it's just looked really artificial in the new style -- which some may say "well Neon is artificial" -- but to the uninitiated it kinda just looks like bad CG.

Anonymous

I liked the blue/grey lipstick! That's my vote! Maybe a character outfit change option? Or unlockable? I -really- preferred the look.

Anonymous

I'm 100% on the blue lipstick, too. It adds to what I think is Neon's rebellious personality, judging from v0.0511's dialogue.

Anonymous

I'm all for the blue lipstick as well. Maybe show a quick comparison shot of it compared to what it is in this demo for the next update so we can see better where you're coming from?

AltairPL

I always said that her blue lipstick would look good on a cock, so that's my vote as well ;).

Anonymous

Yeah like i wrote in the begin. I prefer the lipstick like the old ones! Sure its a question of taste. But also it fits on the Cyberpunk style and in my opinion it gives way more life in her face Not like a Doll. So yeah give them girl her makeup ;)

Anonymous

Yep. Definetely blue ^^

Carter Parks

...(was gonna make some quotes out of the song "I'm Blue (and I believe I will die)" but realized it was too cheesy.) ...C'mon Ero, give the girl her damn makeup back, will ya? She just ain't the same without it.

Jamie C.

I pushed your test here to the best of my ability and had no issues, I looked for these clipping issues and failed to find them. everything just works :) also Neon needs her makeup :P

Jamie C.

She needs her blue lipstick its neon's personailty like malise and her red. No blue no go i agree with these folks if it could be optional you and us could win :D

Anonymous

Optional lipstick would require twice the amount of portraits for Neon, though. No way that'll happen, with their system.

Anonymous

wow... Didn't know that you guys would take the lipstick thingy so serious :D
