BTS James Corden Show Peformance

fun fact!!!! one of the producers of the late late show is named Ben Winston, and he just so happens to be in charge of the grammys in january . yoongi made friends with him last time they were on the show when they were playing hide and seek, and he was gushing about how good this performance was on instagram earlier. our odds of getting a bts grammy performance in january are looking pretty good haha

DT, I'm totally with you. They should have gotten song of the year and album of the year. The thing with the Grammys is that they are very grimey and political. They're not going to chance having anything but American/Western acts for top prizes. Let's see what happens in 2021. If BE doesn't get album of the year, and Life Goes On, song of the year, that would be the biggest BS snub in music history! Let's be real, NO ONE is going to come up with a more meaningful album!

James Corden said in his twitter that he was emotional bec of that performance of BTS on his show. Well, recreating the late late set is no joke! and yes I agree BTS deserves much much more!!! but still thankful they've come this far 💜

Irish Claire Claridad

I agree with you DT. This is my favorite and I think the best Dynamite performance/production ever.💜 BTS will never, ever fail anyone with their productiona and performance. 👌🏼

Irish Claire Claridad

And yes. We’re thankful that they got nominated, but we all know they deserve more.

I think a lot of people miss the point of the raining indoors room, and the cleaning up after. I understand, we've all had to deal with problems, especially with the pandemic, but people forget, not only were Koreans having to deal with the pandemic, but this year's monsoon season was horrific, and much of Seoul was flooded. That cleaning up after - that was literally the scene of Seoul's streets as people returned to their homes and shops, cleaning out all the water and mold and damage. That scene was representative of the problems Koreans had to deal with along with the pandemic. The whole thing was a representation of BTS, and the rest of Korea, and their past year.

BTS definitely deserved more nominations

MoonRabbit

It was definitely a narrative with the same room passing through time - I thought that was portrayed in a really clever way! I hope the flood cleanup has been able to go well, that is horrific.

Fanny Rivas

What do they need to do to get more grammy nominations? Maybe an album completely in english.. but I hope they never do that..

jimin is the bias of every american television host. 😅 Jimmy Fallon and James Corden are both in love with Park Jimin and it's so cute.

And BTS and BH knows they are bigger that all of them but they won't show it out, they just show it through performances. Joon did say that the grammys is their last step to completing their american journey so hopefully they are done after this. They deserve so much more than mediocre award shows who has no respect for them and their artistry. People who clearly don't want to listen to songs or art of another language can just leave. Armys will forever stay with them and the only reason why we put up with all of those shits is because we cant stand to lose. They have worked their butts off to give comfort and joy their whole ENTIRE career so we should do better for them. And don't get me started on kpoppies that have no f business in BTS's lives or careers. They can just die in the well of jealousy. Do not know how much hate other fandoms give BTS because they are popular? ITS F INSANE. They are forver riding in the coattails of BTS but forever insulting the boys who are still technically in their 20s. Especially self proclaimed music critics and record labels who dont want POCs to succeed. Gosh its really insane i tell you. Sorry for ranting guys, but BTS's journey was never smooth and i really hate these ppl who talk shit without even getting to know them yet just because they are koreans or asians or POCs. They deserve as much success than any other white person.

I agree with everything you said DT haha.

Carmen Johnson

yeah not even just sales or views, but looking at the album ratings by critically acclaimed music critics rated MOTS:7 amazingly

All of this was for the James Corden show, including an infinity scene, an aircraft hangar, runway & planes, AND re-creating the Late Show set! It's the most amazing talk Show performance since 'ON' in Grand Central Station back in Feb, which was for Jimmy Fallon. I love how the guys went all out for James & Jimmy this year as a show of gratitude for loving and promoting them so much on their respective talk shows. I'm not gonna lie...I've loved quite a few Dynamite performances from the boys, but this one tops them all!

yooni

I mean, RM said: "I think the Grammy’s are the final part of the whole American journey". I think they are very aware of how corrupt those music shows are, so honestly, I'll be happy when they leave that behind, but that's just my personal opinion. It breaks my heart whenever I see them be around xenophobic and racist people. And the constant questions about if their albums are gonna be more English or if they're gonna collaborate with someone... And the general disrespect from some of these people, it's just repulsive. Anyway, these performances were amazing as usual 💜

Thanks for sharing! How do you know this? I seem to be totally out of the loop with all of these cool tidbits of info 😎

Sonja C.

I totally agree with you about the other categories. But I'll try and be happy that they were nominated at all. Also, yes, I also think that they know exactly how huge this is and that patience will pay off. As difficult as it might be right now. Their interactions with James Corden are always awesome. I really look forward to when they can be on his show again :)

Deejay

Love the concept... life goes on like literally as you can see they went through all the seasons from beginning of the year till the end of the year. The cleaning part is spring cleaning (spring time) . Love this performance 💜 dynamite as well!! I agree they deserve so many more nom than just the performance!!

BTS paved the way! I am so happy our precious boys have been nominated!

DinaArmyMom

I agree this is the best performance of this song for me. They looked like they really enjoyed the performance. Plus re-creating the James Cordon set. The bomb! 😊😊

I loved the part where Jimin was acting like James it was so cute. We all know that’s his papa mochi😂💜💜

Have a happy thanksgiving DT can’t wait for In the Soop on Saturday💜

The Grammy is stupid...they’re so disrespectful to BTS...for real BTS should be nominated for Album and Artist of the year because they’re huge in every way globally and earned more than 3 #1 album in last than a year. They’re in top 25 influence people of the year. Their albums sold not including merchandise or bundles are off the chart compared to other American artist and Grammy still only nominated them for best pop duo or whatever they say...I Say it’s stupid!

Yasmine SB

This performance is one of the most incredible I have seen in my life because of the quality of its production, its interpretation and above all its poetry; of course it refers to the succession of seasons since the beginning of the pandemy with this parenthesis concerning the floods that the Koreans had to face during this period, but it ends on a note of optimism where BTS will irremediably end up flying again to meet James Corden and their fans... Magnificent. And as for the Grammys, I totally agree that they deserve better and it's not too much to ask; If we only consider the US market, MOTS7 is the 2nd best selling album in the US in 2020 after Taylor Swift's Folklore (and without manipulation or bundles), at least one AOTY nomination would have been deserved... Then Dynamite is the only single to have exceeded 600k units sold in the US this year with more than 2M sold while the track was released only at the end of August, on this occasion it deserves to win Record of the year and SOTY. In fact, by this behaviour the Grammys recognize that their decisions are political and economic rather than artistic... When we see the economic impact of BTS in Korea they are afraid that English-speaking artists will lose their impact in the US but BTS also brings benefits to the US since they signed with Columbia Record not to mention the jobs generated by their tours, marching bands, crews, songwriters and producers. There is a lot of hypocrisy in this ceremony when we see the MC's opening speech at the announcement of the nominations which says "the ceremony that rewards diversity and commitment of artists around the world..." and the nominations of the main categories which are only English-speaking artists... There is undeniably discrimination and even xenophobia and it will take time to change things... Let us recall that since the creation of the Grammys in 1962, only 10 black artists have received the AOTY award . So I think there is still a long way to go... And that's why the Army, which is considered today as a social movement, will continue to fight with determination for the records in order to offer BTS the recognition and visibility that the world from the dominant culture denies them... And in the sense that the unity of minority communities must be supported in order to make a difference . As BTS said following their support to BLM "Each one of us deserves respect".

Well said! As an older American one of the things I find most frustrating is how many people here don't think globally. They only think about their state or the US. I moved to Minnesota from Washington DC years ago and was shocked how many people had never been anywhere outside of Minnesota. We arent like Europe and Asia where it's easier to travel to other countries. We have Canada which is different but same in many ways. We have South America but not enough people here travel there or if they do it's to a resort to stay with people just like themselves. There needs to be more exposure here to global issues, people, cultures, etc. Art has no boundaries. Unfortunately, just like between countries there are still man made walls to keep the "other/different" out. The Grammy's have put up these types of walls for years. I believe just like the Oscars who finally gave Best Picture to a foreign language film the Grammy's will have to broaden their acceptance of global music and BTS has helped do that. One nomination this year...but hopefully some day a non-english speaking artist will win the top award(s) and if it's not BTS whoever it is will owe them a huge debt of gratitude💜.

The production of this performance is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Even the producer of the late late night show, Ben Winston said that he was really surprised and cant get over that they rebuild the late late night studio in Korea. That just shows how much effort BTS and Co always give for their performances and simply, no one is close to them.

a a

Actually, they are now in Korea, so they made the whole set of the Late Late show exactly same!!! That is incredible!

Anonymous

Same DT same....they deserve a whole lot more.... they should have been nominated for more categories... I don't get the fact that after breaking all the records in the world Grammys still did not give them the deserving nominations....but I am suuuuppperrrr happy that they got their first nom....yeyyyyyyy.....more to come🎉

He didn’t mean they were done with America after the Grammys. They aren’t just going to cut off from one of the biggest music industries in the world and leave their fans in America hanging. They have some of their biggest concerts in America. The phrase “last stop” means that the Grammys are the most prestigious award for music in America. It means that they have conquered and broke into the very last step of American music. It’s really upsetting seeing everyone saying they hope they are “done” with America. We all know that America is one of the most xenophobic music industries out there, but they literally can’t go anywhere but up. But to think that everyone wants the boys to wash their hands of their American fans that DO love and appreciate them in America is concerning. The more exposure, the more change.

Anonymous

I hope you don’t mean you hope they leave their American fans behind. Because the whole meaning behind the Grammys being the final part of their American journey is a phrase because the Grammys are the most prestigious award for music in America, that if they conquer that then they have completed the artist stepping stones of American music. They would have completed their milestones of American music. As an American, we all know how xenophobic this industry is here, the people are. But change comes from effort and exposure and they are making so much ground here in America. And they can only go up from here. But it’s been really upsetting hearing many army hope they just write off America, leaving me and all their American fans behind. They wouldn’t do that, and they wouldn’t just write off one of the biggest music industries in the world. America is self centered, I grew up thinking that we were the superior country because that is what we’re taught and brainwashed into thinking. But, you know who and why I no longer think like that? BTS and their global fan base. I’ve been an army since 2016 and I’ve seen how far their influence and message has come into America. With each passing day they break down barriers of hundreds of Americans who once never gave them a chance. We’re a huge stubborn and self centered country that I wish I could just flip a switch for them to all see what we now see, but it’s not that easy. BTS are going down in history in America.

This is definetely my favorite performance of dynamite👏 outfits just fire🔥

alex vee

I also thought the recreation looked so real I was like is James corden gonna come out and dance with them?? 😅 such a good recreation and performance!!

An aircraft for a performance, A BOEING 787 DREAMLINER JUST FOR A PERFORMANCE. If they will not win that one grammy award that is about PERFORMANCE, I swear..........

Anonymous

They would not be the album of the year since BTS does not have an album entirely in English, which does not enter the United States statistics, it is ridiculous, since we are talking about a very popular group not only in Korea, but also in the world whole, showing that the language is not a barrier, let's not forget that the dynamite is in English. It is ridiculous since they deserve more than that, but the most important thing is that they dreamed of that now it is a reality, that is only in the beginning

Laura_H_E_H

I loved these performances! Sadly for me personally Google Drive doesn't work as good as vimeo did, that is why I stopped watching your Run reactions. But that aside: DKDKTV did an amazing video explaining how the Grammys work and how people get chosen.. I still don't quite get that part.. But anyhow if you are really interested you should check out their explained! Love your reactions! 💜

Lenny Merlenna

That’s true! The level of commitment to give the best in what they do translates into the high level of production from BTS and their production crew.. I can imagine the length they go to planning and building the sets and eventually bringing an actual plane as part of the prop.. if anyone ever doubt the love they have for their craft and their fans, just take a look at this performance.. it’s mind-blowing! Much respect to them! I agree about the Grammys too.. they deserve more than just one category but we will take it for now.. baby steps.. now, can you imagine how ARMY all over the world is gonna feel in Jan when they are going to announce the winner? We will all be sitting at the edge of the chair and biting our nails.. our dream would probably scream out in joy if they get that award! It would be such a blissful outcome..

I will never understand how the Grammys can just ignore the phenomenon of a foreign language album having been the number 2 selling album in the US. They clearly do not understand the implications of that, and the global shift taking place...and prefer living in the past. Still...grateful for this not-so-small step. Loved this performance so much; they never fail to surprise and delight with their creativity and effort!!

Jennifer Akins

I agree. I don't understand what the criteria is for the Grammy's. Personally, I haven't followed mainstream music in a long time, so I wouldn't know anyway, but it seems to me that they would be looking for innovators that are introducing the industry with something new and more nuanced than what the public is usually used to. Breakout wonders and such have a magic about them, and artistry, and these boys are producing and writing music unlike anything that is out there and it is different musically, reaching worldwide acclaim and making music history. To me, that is what constitutes as "quality" over the rest. It doesn't make any sense. "7" was an AMAZING album. 'Black Swan' should have gotten something.
